Shallow mount subs
Shallow mount subs
I am thinking of get rid of my current 10in sub and amp so I can upgrade and move the subs under my back seat without haveing to raise the seat up. But I had a few questions aout te shallow mount subs:
Does one shallow mount sub still beat as hard as one regular sub?
What size amp would I need to power two 12in subwoofers?
Would two 12s be too loud?
What is a good brand who makes shallow mount subs?
Finally where would I be able to find these things at the best price?
I also have been looking at www.cardiscountstereo.com and thier prices are really really cheap and was wondering if the quality is the same and reliable place to purchase this stuff. Because if it is I need to buy a head unit to replace my stocker, bigger amp, two shallow mount 12in subs

You will get mixed answers on this one, some will say Kicker and some will say Rockford Fosgate. I went to all the local stereo shops and I think the Rockford Fosgate sounded the best. Now that could be that maybe the other subs were in the wrong size boxs and were not performing that good due to the wrong size box. I just ordered the Rockford P3SD210 sub, check out this guys ebay store he has great prices. Retail on the sub is $180 and I paid $94 from him.

The three best shallow mount subs, without breaking the bank and buying the new JL's, are the Kickers, the Rockford Fosgates, and the Pioneers. All three are pretty decent, but don't hit as hard as their non-shallow mount counterparts. Shallow mounts are a compromise. For those of us who just want some bass and are not willing to give up the back seat, shallow mounts are a life saver. I am very impressed with mine, but then again, I am not competing in competitions either.
i had great experiences with my clarion shallow mounts, just decided to upgrade, i have a 95 ex. cab as well and 2 10" clarions with the proper amp would hit hard and the custom box i made for those subs was only 4" tall
Yea see thats why I want to go from a 10' boston acustic sub, which I have mounted right behind my center console in a box, to 2 12' shallow mount subs. My friend has a 12' MTX sub (not shallow mounted) in his truck and it hits really hard so I'm hopeing if I go with two 12' shallow mounts under the seat it will make for more room for all the ladies and I could get a little bit more bump out of it when I need it.
I posted the following in another thread today. Didn't feel like re-typing it:
A good place to go for the most bang for your buck is going to be www.edesignaudio.com/. Elemental Designs is relatively unknown, so if you want "that name", then obviously this isnt for you. But some of my friends have gotten some subs from them and they were very wowed. Also, they have some picture galleries there, so you can see what kind of rides these speakers are being put into.
Also, on top of being relatively VERY inexpensive, they are also relatively compact, making them much easier to fit under your seats. My current subs (pulled out of my old car) are way too big to fit under the rear seat, but I can get essentially the same power out of eD's speakers for much less price, and a much shallower speaker (making it easier to cram more sound under the seats).
Finally (at risk of sounding like a salesman for eD), their customer service is amazing. They can custom-build boxes for you, but they are located in Iowa and don't want to waste your money in shipping them if you live far away (but I'm sure they would if you asked them nicely and were willing to cover whatever the shipping costs were). I asked them some spec questions (i.e., how much space I should leave behind the magnet if I were to build my box myself, as well as how much room for air flow/vibration I should leave in front of the speaker). They responded to me same-day, and were very polite and knowledgeable. I plan to buy my next set of subs from them (and hopefully I'll get to do that soon!).

To build on that, the eD subs aren't shallow, but they ARE relatively compact. I don't know how much room you got under your seat, but I know I have like 7.5" under mine, and after leaving .75" behind the magnet and 1.5" between the floor and the speaker, I'm going to have to raise my seat a little. But that's okay because my truck seems to have a good bit of head room in the back (from what I'm told). Hope this helps.
