what's wrong with my sub??

so my sub stopped working. or should i say it works when it wants to.

with a signal going to it in normal operation it doesn't work.

when you push ever so slightly on the cone/surround it starts to work again.

any ideas???

voice coil shot maybe

The tensil leads on the back of the sub most likely have a cold solder joint. If it's easy to get too, it shouldnt be too hard of a fix. If its loose inside the motor structure, then you need to contact the manufacturer and see if they will warantee it. Good luck.

super dooper

thanks crewwzin

no prob, man. What kinda sub is it? Where'd you get it? You might be able to get a warranty claim out of it.

edit: just read your sig and noticed its a Kicker. they've got a pretty good claims dept.

even if it's two or three years old and i don't have the box or receipt?

i even doubt the local store would do anything

Hmm...nevermind then. You'd probably be better off just buying a new one. I think BB in Destin has some open box stuff right now that you could pick up pretty reasonable. If not there, I know Sound Solutions in Niceville has some Kickers they're trying to get rid of.

306stang Feb 14, 2008 06:21 PM

well if i gotta get a new sub i'd prefer to get a shallow mount b/c of the damn seat or maybe even mounting behind the back seat..

do shallow's sound as good as regular's?

Crewwzin Feb 14, 2008 06:36 PM

I dont think you're gonna get it behind the back seat. Its a little too cramped back there. From what I've heard, the shallows are comparable to regular subs. But there are plenty of regular subs that will fit under the seat with plenty of room to spare. Anything with a mounting depth of 5.5 or less will do nicely.

yeah bad sub... it's going out

Low_e_Red Feb 14, 2008 10:02 PM

Im definately not a fan of a few of the shallow mounts. Some are nice but others... Ehh.

How far is Destin from Tampa?

so let's start compairing subs. this has probably been beaten to death but whatever.

kicker
audiobahn
clarion
id
what?

right now i've got a kicker 200.2 amp (yes i know it's very weak)
i would eventually like to push a sub with 600-400
i want the sub to be loud and clear.

any ideas

306stang Feb 16, 2008 05:44 PM

so i took to sub to a local shop i trust. verdict - a voice coil is bad.

so now i'm looking at shallow mount kicker's. either 10's or 12's
if i run 10's i'll get a kicker 500.1 amp
and
if i run 12's i'l get the 750.1 amp.

prices for both setup's are roughly the same.

has any one mounted shallows behind the back seat of an 05 ext cab.

i don't listen to a lot of rap so i'd be going for loud quick bass, ie rock.

the tweleve's are gonna give me deeper bass but not hit the faster notes however the ten's will do the opposite.

the guy said 12's might be able to go behind the seat but it would def be a fiberglass enclosure

hmm...I'm not so sure about that. Theres barely enough room for amps back there, much less trying to get 1.5-2ft3 of air space. I have seen a couple of guys on here that have made brackets to bring the seat out a little, but even then, it would still be cuttin it close. What shop did you go to?
