1 or 2 subs?
1 or 2 subs?
Trying to make up my mind on a single 10" sub box or a dual 10" sub box.
I plan to power either with a 400x1 @ 2ohm amp.
Will the dual 10" be louder and sound better than the single or will the single be louder since it is not sharing power?
Thanks

I went with single 10" box and have regretted it ever since. It gets pretty loud but I wish I had gone with two subs. My box with the id10v3 may be for sale this spring or summer when I get time to lift the seat and build a new box.
just get a 500rms single 12. My 1100rms single 12 sub system will rock almost everyone around here in the bay area.
You dont need quantity, just power and quality. Just because you have 2 subs dosent mean it will be louder or harder hitting. For the price of a cheap dual sub setup you can have a good single sub setup. May I add the space you will gain.
Not saying mine is an example of what you should do... its just an example that you dont need multiple subs to be thumpin. I think a good single 10 will do just fine.

I ended up getting a dual 10" sub box from SuperCrewSound....still waiting for it to come in. Trying to keep it simple on this vehicle. A seat lift or a box somewhere other then under the seat would have been out of the question.
I got a 400w amp that should push them just fine. I figured I could just hook up one and get first hand experience which is the better way I should have went. I think the dual 10 in my case was a good decission.
Thanks for the responses.

well to help you out, its all about air space. I went with some off the loudest 10s you can get for the money, it was hel! i had to get a seat lift then 3 places told me they wouldnt fit, finnaly this place made them fit after 1200 buck just in install and building a box, they are loud but i have been tould if i just went with one and ported it, it would be twise as loud, but on a sound meter it hit 140dbs, and just installed new polk 6 1/2 speackers all around and its alot louder just makes you think. more ISNT always better

x2 I reget it too. Im gonna try to squeeze in 2 subs and build a new box when i get a chance. If your sticking to 10s then get 2 instead of one.

2 10's will be 3Db louder than 1 10 with the same power, better lowend too thanks to the increased cone area
THERES NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT

Thats the first time I heard the "THERES NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT" in a sub dicussion....pretty good. But a turbo can be a good subsitute for displacement when having less than 6cylinders.

Thanks for all the advice.
So if i were putting two elemental designs 11kv.2 which only require .5 cu ft per sub and a supercrewsound box with .75 cu ft per sub be louder than one of these same subs in a single box that has .7 cu ft?
How is it a sub like this can need so little air space? I seem to be liking what I hear about elemental design subs. Are these the right ones to put in an under the seat box without a seat lift?

Another question- Are these shallow mount elemental design subs any good? I just find it kinda odd that they don't require that much air space.

I have to hear that every damn day. Those kids will come in think their system is the chit and they have 2 Kicker Comp 12's with a 200W (badged a 1000W, ALSO HATE THAT) amp and theyre always like "I got 2 Competition Subs with 1000W amp running them, Yall have anything louder?" First thought, GET THE ******* OUT! Then I take them and let my 1 10W6v2 fry their *****.
And its setup for SQ....

lol kids these days buy into whatever marketing feeds them, they wouldn't know real competition equipment if it hit them in the ***, hell closest I came to comp stuff were my 2 re audio sx10's and even I wouldn't consider those comp grade, altho they were very stout subs. I love shopping at BB or CC, I always have to wonder past the CA stuff just to see what kinda crap they are pushing out the door, I'm hoping to stumble upon one of those epic n00b meets n00b convos
but ya, stamped baskets and push terminals make ED far from comp ready.... of course if you were ready to play with the big boys at a 3x event you sure wouldn't be asking if ED was any good
