2003 SuperCab Subwoofer

Hey guys, so I have searched around on the forum, maybe you guys can point me in the direction of a thread that already discusses this.

I'm looking to put either a 10" or a 12" sub in my scab without lifting the back seat. I'm not planning on spending tons on it, but i just want a little more bass. I will probably want to build the box myself. Does anyone have dimensions of a box I could build that would fit? Can you put the amp under the passenger side seat? I probably won't spend much more than $150-$200, so any help would be great.

Thanks

There is VERY little room under the back seats of those older Scabs. By the time you figure in wood thickness and space between the floor and box, your looking at a sub with MAYBE a 4 inch or so mounting depth....which is pretty much impossible to find.

I think Earthquake and Pioneer might make something that small...

Amp under the passengers seat will work fine.

So you are saying its gonna be way hard to build a box big enough to fit under the 03 scab seat?

Can the box be any shape, just as long as there is enough air inside?

I really don't know much about sound systems, sorry if these questions seem kinda dumb haha

Whether or not it will be big enough depends on how much airspace the sub you want to use requires. You should be able to get the airspace you need, but mounting depth, thats another ballpark.

Box can just about be any shape...

What is the typical mounting depth and air space required? How would I put a sub in an screw then?

I had a box for 2 8" CVRs come through the other day... It didnt look lifted... Could of been barely though...

I always put the amps under the front pass seat in those.

http://www.audioboxesonline.com/Ford...10_p_8-76.html

this site has dimensions to the box and gives you a good idea on how to build them (somewhere on the site it says they use liquid nails and nail it)

this box should fit under the seat without raising the seat. its 7-1/2 inches tall while with the seats down i think it is 8 - 9" to the bottom of the seat

i am probably going to use an enclosure such as this with 10" subs...the cu/ft of whichever sub you choose (unless you choose shallow mount) is going to be toward the low end of the required space.

Hmmm...the older flip forward style seats must be lower to the floor than the flip up ones in the 00+.

I only had 6.5 inches between my seat bottom and floor

yeah the only thing i am worried about is being able to put my seats up and down...i am not sure why seeing as i wont be needing any of the space under the seats anymore

Thanks for that link. I was looking around that site and I was only thinking of having a single sub and not two, I saw a single box that fires upwards. Is it bad to have an upward firing rather than downward firing sub in our trucks?

Ok guys I honestly am a moron when it comes to electronics and what all the ohms and that mean. I'm wondering if a setup like this would work.

I build a box like this : http://caraudiofactory.com/19972003-...nded-p-53.html

Put the Pioneer - 10" 600W Single-Voice-Coil 4-Ohm Subwoofer - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....#productdetail

For the amp, I have absolutely no clue, any suggestions? I'm working on a budget, so I want nothing insane but something that will be able to push my sub and make it kick.

Headunit - I will need a new one right? Any suggestions?

Any input would help me out a ton

Still kinda new but from what I have found out since I have started my adventure of upgrading my stereo, there is no such thing as "I don't want to spend a lot of money".

Your best bet is to start buying everything piece by piece as you can use it and afford it.

I started with a decent head unit for around $150 and ran it to the stock speakers. Then I replaced the front door speakers with some decent components (on sale from Cadence for $100) and ran them off the head unit for awhile. Then I bought a decent wattage 4 channel amp ($100 off E-bay) and wiring kit ($100 Best Buy) and switched the front speakers over to the amp. Then I bought a pre-made box from supercrewsound ($90) and ordered a 10" Elemental Design 11kv2 sub ($90) for the box.

Still waiting to receive the sub, but I'm thinking this setup should sound pretty good and I'll only have about $650 in the whole thing. A small cry from $150 - $200 and I set myself up to easily upgrade should I want more. I also was not ashamed to tell the wife to buy me the sub box for Christmas and tell relatives to get me Best Buy gift cards.

Ok yeah I realized with the headunit and all I will have to spend more than I expected, but building the box will save me some money. Anyone recommend a good headunit and amp? I was thinking since I'm probably going with a pioneer sub, it would be best to keep everything pioneer? or is that just crazy?
