Help me decide PLEASE
Help me decide PLEASE
Now I know these typses of threads have been beat to death, but I just cant find the answer I was looking for via the SEARCH function. Im building a box right now for a single Rockford Fosgate Shallow Mount 10 inch. Also, I am set on doing some front 6.5" components, but still have to decide which I want. I was thinking about some Boston Acoustics, Diamond Audio, Alpine, or JL.
So I guess the question is what components would you guys recommend for a guy that listens to mostly rock and classic rock, as well as some metal and very little rap. I know that I prefer better SQ then to high SPL, but i am very confused as to what brand would suit me best. Would like to keep it under 200 bucks too.
The other question is what do you guys recommend as far as amplifiers go and what type? I was hoping to use just one amp, with it powering the components and the sub, and maybe bridging the sub through the rear speakers' channels on the amp. I love my RF 501s amp in my Jeep, and it has served well for 3 years, and is still as good as the day I got it.
But Im not sure this will work well because that particular sub is 300W RMS and 600W Peak. So should I use two amps, or can I use a single 3, 4, or 5 channel amp for the whole project?
Thanks in advance....

As far as the comps go... If you can, listen to as many different sets as you can. I can say "oh, go get this set" or somebody else can say "these are the shiz". But, it is going to come down to whatever you like most. All of the brands you mentioned above are known to be good. There are some other non-main-stream comps out there that guys will chime in on here with soon.
As far as amps... Most guys are leaning toward the no rear fill attitude. They say to concentrate most of your money towards the front. So, picking up either a nice 4 channel and bridging the 2 rear channels for the sub like you mentioned, or picking up a 2 channel or bridging a 4 channel for the fronts and another amp for the sub. Either 2 channel or a mono amp, depending on what you go with for substage. If 2 channel, bridge the amp.
Either way, good luck on what you decide. Post up pics of your setup when installing.

What he said pretty much^^^
If your wanting one amp, go ahead and get a 4 channel with the rears bridged, or find a 3 channel. 3 channels arent to popular but they are out there. Easiest and it works perfectly fine.
Good advice on going out and listening to things too. The brands you listed can be found in most any caraudio shops, and they all make quality equipment IMO. The only person that can tell you what sounds good is YOU

Thank you both very much, and that is what I expected. I went out today, and I really liked the JL's, but after being around 250 and up for the decent ones, I didnt care for it to much. In a small town, there arent that many shops, especially ones that carry non-named brand speakers, such as RE, ID, Focal, Rainbow, Morel, MB Quart or even Diamond Audio.
Im leaning towards the Boston Acoustics SL60 for components, but still would like to know more about diamond audio.
As for the amp, Im looking at a 3 channel or two amps, being a two channel and a mono. I know kicker makes a three channel, and eclipse has a nice 5 channel too.
Here they are and what do you think?
Eclipse XA 5000 (5 channel)

Kicker ZX550.3 (3 channel)
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...r+ZX550.3.html

Out of those two amps, personally, I would easily pick the Eclipse over the Kicker.
Bridge the 4 channels and you have a healthy 150 watts a side for some components, and can still run 450wrms on the sub channel. Should work great.

Yeah I think your right about that. I was gonna do two amps but I think Im set on that Eclipse amp now. Thanks again for the help.
If I bridge the four channels just for the front speakers, will I still have fade capabilities if the rears are connected straight to the Pioneer Avic D3 headunit? Also, if the front components are both 4 ohm SVC speakers, what RF 10 P3 (shallow) should I get to match the Ohm impedence, with the two choices being a 2 ohm DVC or a 4 ohm DVC, or does it matter?
Thanks again.

To answer your question about fade capabilities... Yes if you hook it up just as you said, you will still be able to fade.
One thing to be careful on though. Im not sure about this particular model eclipse, but I remember most 5 channel amps not liking when you run mismatch loads (4 ohms on the front 4 and 2 ohms on the sub). You might want to check that out with eclipse though. They will let you run 2 ohms on all channels but not just to the sub for some reason. Guys on here might say that I am crazy but do your homework before you order such a nice/expensive product and fry it
. Double check me though to be sure.Looking to be a nice setup. Oh yeah, and if you dont mind oval speakers, LowEred has some jl comps for sale. I dont know how much he is asking for them but shoot him a message to find out.
Good luck and post pics,

Kicker 5 channels would be a good Idea,
No bridging, and you keep all the fading capabilities.
The ZX700.5 looks great. With a good price.

Trust me, he will be fine with either amp.
