building a box

im building a box tomorrow for my brothers christmas present. i know ill need some mdf, caulk, staple gun. what is the carpet stuff called and where can i get it? also is there any tips for me? im sure some of yall have made your own boxes before

Table Saw, Router w/ Flush trim, 1/2'' Roundover, and 3/8'' Rabbit, Brad nailer, Wood Glue, HLVP Sprayer w/ Contact Cement. BOJOs, 3/4'' MDF... etc. Just for starters.


NO CAULK or LIQUID NAILS. Will eat surrounds.

You mean Polyfill? Thats just for inside. Joanns will have it as well as any other fabric store. Walmart even.

thanks man. its not polyfil though. i got lots of that. im talking about the outside of the box, the carpet thats on the mdf

Carpet you can usually find some at walmart, I've also found some at JoAnns fabric store. And I think Kragen and Autozone carry the carpet as well(usually just tan, gray, and balck though)

i caulked my inside seams on my box...and also around my sub when i set it in...have never had a problem...

well i got the box built and everything installed today. i just need to seal it up tonight. i went to walmart, hobby lobby, and home depot and none of them had the carpeting i was looking for. i guess ill try joanns tomorrow

Sounds good just make sure to let the silicone dry for a full day to prevent damage to the speakers I got my carpet from crutchfield audio. It wasn't that expensive either.

thanks. i know that the fumes from the silicone are like acid on the subs. im just glad my brother is happy. this was his christmas present. i also put him some kenwood speakers in the back. his little POS car really sounds good now
