2008 Regular Cab Sub Box for non basshead worktruck

Dear All,
I've been thinking about making my F150 sound good on all frequencies.
I've never had a amplifier, so I'm thinking about buying a kicker ZX700.5 and I need to find a sub box that will fit in the back but not waste the space behind both seats.

It's a work truck so I still want to have space behind one of the seats.

10 inches ? Most people here recommend 10 inches or bigger.

Does anyone know about a sub box that I can put behind the seat ? (the ZX700.5 can power 210 AT 4ohms or 420 AT 2omhs)

Anyone had a JL CS110TG-W1v2 on a regular cab ? Also I've hear about people having a Kicker MicroSub, there is no such product on Kicker website, anyone have a part number on it ?

thank you very much,
Charles

If you are just wanting a single sub behind the pass. seat your should be able to get about anyting you want in a 10" or a 12." Some subs will take up more room but generally you might not need to move the seat. You can find truck boxes anywhere and then get the best sub that will fit in the box. you can get a kicker comp 10" in a truck box for $100 or so that will do an alright job filling in the bottom end and you wont have to move the seat.

If you just want a single 10 you will still be able to have a good amount of room. If you just want something to fill out the low end a 10 is more than enough also.

Almost any sealed prefab box for a single 10 will fit back there and leave plenty of room.

That JL would be a great little thing that you could have in there, and easily take out if you needed to for extra space. Would fit great on that ledge and still have about 10 inches between the box and the center seatbelt thingy on the back wall.

Something else that you might want to consider, you might not be able to recline the seat all the way though, is a rectangle shaped box instead of wedge shaped. With a rectangle shaped box you can throw stuff ontop of it for a little more space...if you have a wedge/truck style box then the space it takes up is pretty much dead space.

Someting like this, but with a smaller powered single 10 you would be able to make the box a fair amount smaller. I can still throw crap ontop of this box so it actually makes for a little more space than if I had a wedge shaped box. My seat cant fully recline though, but Im not too worried about it.

That box is 30 long, 14 tall, and something like 9ish inched deep...1.25 cu ft. There are plenty of 10s that work percfect in .5, .75 cu ft, so you could cut that box size down a fair amount.

Thank you WatBat66 and Bartak1

I will be getting the back cover so I can put my stuff in the back and after I get it I will buy the sub for the back seat, I will take the measures and buy according to the size available.

Bartak1 just to add, you cannot build a sub box rectangle shaped, the sound waves are going to cancel each other. The box Must be in a non-regular shape. That's why 99% of all sub boxes aren't rectangle or squares.
You may have re-shaped it inside, not sure, but just wanted to add that.
I may consider making my own box. not sure yet. I will do a price check first and see if is there anything already made specifically for the truck that won't take the whole back off.
I truly would love to see an Molded box that would take only half of the back. I don't see a need for two subs.

I think what he is referring to more than anything is the waves coming off the back of the cone, and reflecting off a parallel surface, back into the backside of the cone. This will produce standing waves and cancellation, which pretty much means a bit of distortion. However, standing waves are really not a problem at sub bass frequencies.

In a cube shaped box, the sides are parallel to at least one other side. Soundwaves that intersect at 180 degrees have a tendency to cancel each other out. This is one of the reasons behing a cube being the worst possible shape for a sub box.

However, the subbass wavelengths are usually to long compared to the physical size of the enclosure for it to matter. Unless you have a MASSIVE box, like on that proabably wouldnt be able to fit in one of our trucks.

So, in a way, yes, its not ideal to have a square enclosure, but when it comes to subwoofers, its not really a big deal. Once you start getting into midbass/mid frequencies is where you want to watch this.

Surprising as it may be. We do have a clue.

MUST uhh no.

75 percent of the boxes you see actually are made off of rectangular boxes then formed to the space needed.

Bartak is 100% correct. I have done the math a long time ago but around 30Hz it takes 11 feet to complete a full wave. IF YOUR CUBE was that long then yes I might worry for more than 1 reason.

And before you say it. Yes I am an A**hole.

I was referring to the fact that he said he needed help, and that he never had an amp before. And wanted to know if they made a box for his application... Then he gives you a "stock tip" on how to make a box.

I just always think it is funny when people ask for your help and then tell you how to do it.

P.S. Styx, I didnt fall for this one... I will never click on one of your links again without letting someone else be the guinea pig first.

Later,

Yeah, it took me about 10 minutes to get the other one off of my screen. I'll get him back one day...
