Okay, im new to the forum and i've been looking at getting a new system for my 05 stx supercab. I have ordered the Alpine CDE 9881, and i was wondering what kind of speakers i should get. should i get comp sets in the front or just go coaxial all around and what kind do you guys suggest, im kinda on a budget and im looking for all around sound; mids low and highs. Thanks

Do you plan on powering them off of the headunit or a seperate amp?

the aftermarket h/u will help with the factory speakers. BUT if you plan on listening to your music loud then i would suggest you upgrade the speakers.
if you get a half way decent comp set then you will probably spend more than just buying a couple sets of speakers and a small amp to power them.

Do round speakers really sound better than oval shaped speakers? I've heard that from a lot of people but didn't know if it was true. If it is then i was thinking about getting the type r 6.5 comp set because i know it comes with the adapter plate.

generally speaking yes round speakers do sound better but for just general music listening it wont make THAT big of a difference. after all, a car or truck is about the worst place for sound quality. road and engine noise can really take a toll on the sound quality.

If i were you i would put the type r comps up front and leave the rears stock and fade it pretty much all up front. You really need an amp for the type Rs to be worth the money. If your not serious about adding an amp save some cash and buy some type s coax's. They sound great when powered by only the hu.
