Loud Exterior?

I have a 04 Lariat and one thing i noticed is when i have music playing, It is really audible on the outside. More than other vehicles. I had the stock stereo at 3 to 3.5 bars and somebody told me to turn the music down lol. Is is just the F150's that have this problem, it seems like so much sound is leaving the cabin to the outside. Would insulating the door panels help at all?

Yeah man I know exactly what you mean, you really can hear music outside the truck even with the windows up. But not much outside noise makes its way into the cab, so it's a win-win right?

I noticed this too. Cant hear the bass that much, but I can hear my mids loud and clear outside with the truck all closed up.

We just need to deaden the shiat out of our doors.

I noticed that as well. I am guessing it has to do with the location of the speakers in the doors, and how they are placed. Because road noise isnt much of a problem.

you really cant hear the bass? when i had a ported 10 in mine you could hear the bass from a pretty good distance, even windows up.

it rattled the hell out of my rear exterior door panels though, which was kinda annoying if you were standing right next to the truck with the volume up.

Nope...with both Mags in going full tilt, you really couldnt hear the bass on the ouside of the truck if you were more than 5ish feet away if I remember right, but you could see all the panels flexing. It might be different now though...I just remember right after I put both Mags in I cranked it and stood outside to see how high I could turn it up without bothering people outside the truck...didnt hear a thing except for the mids.

Im sure with some time everything will loosen up and it will be a big ol rattle can like my other truck. Maybe then.
Hopefully it wont...I like being able to drive around with my music turned up and not look like a dbag

I wonder if it's because the truck sits higher and the speakers are higher in the doors than a car or other truck. Puts em closer to ear level maybe.

It is a possibility, I just think that the metal is thin. I already ordered some dynamat to fix this problem. I like to listen to my music at a decent volume, but if i have people knocking on my truck window while I am parked for 10 minutes then there is a problem even though it was midnight and i had the music at a tolerable level .

I take back my statement. There is mids and tweet still... Oh well... Double layers on door skin and on speaker panel. I have everything fully dynamatted too... I guess ill just be able to have it up a bit louder with the cops next to me

I never had bass problems. Cant hear the bass outside the truck.

The F150 is indeed pretty quiet inside, but could be better. I previously drove a Lincoln LS, so I noticed the increased noise right away (but you can't really compare, I mean.. this is a truck, not some fancy luxury sedan, right?). So, as part of my audio build-out, I decided to put down some sound deadening on the floor boards and back. Now it's quieter... I get road noise from my doors. I still need to put the material in the doors to fix that.

As for the speakers, yes, you can hear them outside the car. But like Low_e_Red says, he has 15sqft in each door and you can't hear anything on the outside. So, is it worth the $300 to deaden your doors if you're not wasting thousands more on a stereo install? Probably not.

I was wondering the same about the bass not being heard outside of the truck. I wondered if it was b/c of the down firing subs.
