Elemental Designs 8" Sub - Good? Better? Best?

So in a thread I started a while back asking opinions about 8" subwoofers the name Elemental Designs came up and was pretty highly recommended.

Well now I'm ready to actually buy the woofer and wanted to double check that Elemental Designs is what I want. I have done some more research and have heard that they are both good and bad.

So what is the current verdict? ED, good? Bad? Customer service? Is there something better in an 8" sub out there than the ED for the price?

I appreciate the help!

the 9Kv.2 is good
ED's customer servies is bad.... or so I hear
thare arnt any 8 inch subs that sound as good as the 9Kv.2 for the same price

there are only three other 8's I can think of that are louder but they are way expensiveand better suited for SPL

I am a new customer of ED, pretty darn happy and love the live chat support.

Small company, they don't need bad press. I think they take care of their customers.

IMHO

My 10's hit pretty good.

I HATE ED's i smoked them in a week with NO help from them I was SOL. I will never buy them or reomend them again. Also dont try to tell me I hooked them up wrong, this wasnt my first system, hell not even my 5th full system. Ive had everything, so far my JL subs have been my best subs but my JL amp has sucked, while my RF amp has been strait abused and still hitting, and my rainbows blow all my door speakers out of the water, I can play anything on them and they sound amazing

Well that sucks. I'd chalk it up as a fluke as you point out they were hooked up correctly and or other factors involved. Not sure why they didn't want them back to test them so they could tell you what the failure was. I am lucky to own a Home Theater business so I had my techs do my install. They do this stuff every day and I don't. So I know it was hooked up correctly. Its pretty easy to blow up a sub with all the factors in play.

I've had my ED's for about 3 weeks and they just get better and better....they are much better than I was expecting. I've had very expensive subs in the past and I still say that the ED's sound better for my application than any subs i have tried in the same box. This makes the 3 set of subs in that same box.

For those keeping score at home, I ended up ordering a 9Kv.2. I'll report back how it is when I get everything installed someday...

congrats....and yes i was keeping score.

And to the poster with the blown ED's, I forgot to mention that I would never own another Pioneer HU for similar reasons so....not every vendor is perfect.

I've heard this is one of the downsides of ED, if it was smoked it was probably getting too much power or a clipped signal, most companys recone subs for a fee.. I know RE audio does it ALOT
