what ohm do i want?
what ohm do i want?
hi, im goin to buy 2 jl 12w3s but i dont know what i want for ohms. they come in 2, 4, and 8 ohms. im using th 500/1 amp and puttin them under the seats on my 05 screw. what ohms should i get? thanks
The amp literature should specify what its minimum load is. Most newer high performance amps will drive 2-ohms, perhaps less - it's important to KNOW what the amp is rated for.
The 8-ohm is probably an all-around safe bet, however, lower impedence speakers generally offer better performance, so I suggest that you want the lowest speaker impedence that the amp is rated for. The ideal situation is to exactly match the speaker impedence with the amp's rated or preferred specification for output load.
If you intend to parallel speakers, the degree of difficulty increases. Remember that two speakers of the same impedence which are connected in parallel will present an impedence of 1/2 the speaker impedence to the amp. Ex.- two 8-ohm speakers in parallel means the amp will see a 4-ohm load.

Personally I would go with two of the 2 ohm ones and wire them for 4 ohm...

I agree
Like listed above, that amp puts out the same power from 1.5 ohms to 4 ohms. So I guess it really wont matter which ones you get. Im sure Low E will chime in sooner or later with better advice, but I would listen to some of the guys that have more posts... If you know what I mean...
My cousin is trying to decide whether or not to go with the Dual 4 or dual 2ohm l7's. We got him a kicker kx1500.1 and supposedly kicker amps perform best at 2 ohms? That is what I read so I have no clue. In that cause he should get the dual 4's

And if your ohm stupid like I am, this page can be really helpful.
