opinions on infinity speakers.

ok guys, i have the option of buying some infinity speaker brand new for dirt cheap. i was thinking of getting the:

Infinity Kappa 680.7cs---- $83 retail $349

Infinity Kappa 682.7cf---- $43 retail $169

just wondering if it is even worth buying these things. i will most likely be buying a DNX7100 and some type of amp to push them, but im just wondering if its even worth it..... educated opinions please.

You dont happen to work at a BBY do you?

The only great thing HK has for a car is the JBL GTi series and Crown/Power amps.
Polk SR, JL XR (oops look down)

Oh it works well as a fridge magnet....

yeah i do work at BBY. i have always heard good things about infinity but have never really asked about them. i know that their lows suck on the woofers but i have two 12's in my truck to make up for that. what other components should i look at then??? i am a college student and dont have 1300 bucks to blow on components like high end focals or anything. come on guys lead me in the right direction. im tired of my factory door speakers.

I used to run those infinity speakers and they work but lack any brightness and low end. Strickly a mid to lower high range speaker. So IMO you would still need a good tweeter and mid range woofer to make this sound even like a upgrade. I replaced my Infinity's with Polk MOMO and that was a great improvement. The Rainbows I have now are a world apart.

Yeah, if you do a search on here people are always bashing infinity. You get some of the guys that just buy them because they get a good deal, and then they "you know what" about them in another post 1 week later. Its like clockwork really.

You said that you work for best buy... Try the new alpine type r comps. They are 6.5" (rounds) and come with an adapter plate to make them direct fit for your 5x7/6x8 mounting locations. See what you can get them for. I bet it is cheaper than what I paid for mine. If you get them, make sure you put an amp on them though. Same thing with any good speakers anyways.

See what you can get them for anyways, I want to see how bad I took it...

Later, and good luck,

I personaly dont have infinity speakers, but my friend got 2 in a s-10 that sound great and 2 in his f-350 thats great sounding.. Remember your going for price, $50 a pair you would be stupid not to get them.. Yes JL is like one of the best but for $700 a pair I would never do for a everyday truck. Bro has 2 12w7 and 2 MB Quarts compared to friend with 1 13w7 and 4 JL CSI and my bros 2 MB Quarts n 2 stocks sounds chrisper n louder then the overpriced JLs csi... This isnt world of mouth, I have lots of friends with nice trucks n cars n their is NOTHING wrong with trying to save alittle money with the infinity. I didnt look at ur model size but i would do 6 1/2 not 6x8s

i work at bb too as an installer. don't by the infinity speakers get the type R's. Just make sure the type R will fit in our trucks. The mounting depth on them is pretty severe.

thanks for the great replies guys. i took a look at the type R's today and i like the mids and lows alot better than the infinity's, but the highs on the infinity's are so much more crisper and brighter than the type R's. i just feel like there is no middle ground.

ohh and devildog, ill take a look tomorrow and let you know what i can get them for.

Cool, now I dont feel so bad. I got a set off ebay from a guy in Fl for $128 shipped. They are new and not refurbs either. Right after I bought them, I was thinking about all of the guys I hear on the sight that work at best buy.

Thanks for the reply.

P.S.
Im doing the spr-17s in the front and the spr-17c in the rear. The spr-17c dont come with the adapter plate, but I will be making a set so they fit. But the fronts come with the plates.

Good luck in whichever set you choose,
