Where To Connect Sub Input

I am brand new to these forums. Just got a 2008 FX2 with factory stereo and would like to add a sub. Where are you guys running the input for the amp? Is there a place to plug in directly or will I have to splice into speaker wires, or?

I took a look behind the glove box and see plenty of wires but nothing to plug a sub into.

Thanks in advance.

you will need to use a Line Out Converter to get an RCA input for your amp. yes, you will need to splice wires.

Thanks, where is a good place to splice into the speaker wires?

Ford has a factory sub. Do they splice into wires too or do they use a different factory stereo with line outputs?

I found that MTX has a custom fit ThunderForm unit for F150s. I can't tell if it comes with an amp but I assume not? Looks like a pretty clean looking install though.

Go to a local shop buy a reverse and normal harness for your truck. Wire in the LOC against your front left(white & white/black) and rear right (purple & purple/black) spks. This way you will have bass almost anyway you fade/balance your spks.

just a warning: if you have the stock audiophile subwoofer, your speakers will be crossed over around 80 Hz so tapping into the speakers wont give you low signal below that frequency.

you may have to disconnect the stock amp, and tap into the speaker wires in it to get the lower frequency spectrum. that is what i had to do before i got a new head unit, there are pics in my gallery.

Thanks for the tips. No, I don't have the audiophile set up. I did discover last night that the MTX web site has the instructions for their sub online. They suggest tapping in to the speaker lines running down the driver's side.

I do kind of like the idea of getting the harnesses from a local shop though. I haven't had a chance to really poke around yet but how do I gain access to the back of the factory radio? I found that I could lower the glove box door completely out of the way but I wasn't convinced that I could get to the back of the radio from there.

if your truck is a 2004+ new body style, its very easy, gently use a screw driver to pop out the plastic piece surrounding the head unit (the whole thing will pop out, just start at the top and work your way down with the screw driver, gently poping out each hole).

once it is off, theres just four simple 8mm screws and you can pull it right out
