ED 6500 @ 80hz

I need some help with my system. I have a set of Elemental Design 6500 Comps in my front doors of my 01 150 scab. I have them running off of a bridged Alpine MRV 357. The are getting 150rms. I have sound deadened my doors with b-quite. I also made a baffle out of 3/4 mdf. With components high passed at 80, I get distortion at higher volumes. You know, that "gack" sound. High passed at 120 then its all good. I would really like to get them to be able to play clearly down to 80. Bass level flat at the head unit and the gains on the amp are set in the middle. Where is yours cut off at? Any tips? Thanks, Dino.

What happens if you leave it crossed over at 80 but turn the base on the HU down a notch or two??

I posted something in another thread also...pretty much wondering what your crossovers slope is set at?? If you have the ability to change it on your HU, maybe its only set at something like -6db/octave.

Set your gains with a DMM too, instead of just guesing. Maybe they are two high.

Is your EQ bumped way up on the bottom end?

I dont have those components, but I am running my high passed at 63 hz witha 24db slope...

If nothing else throw that eD chit out the window at 70 mph Kidding

those are the same components i have, are the doors nice and sealed? especialy around the speaker? i can get real low with mine, down to like 40hz. you shouldnt need to run a filter at all, just dont use any bass boost. on my alpine headunit i have 60hz at +4, and it handles it fine.

If all else fails just give eD a call, they are more than happy to answer install questions and will work with you until the problem is resolved.

Thanks for all of your feedback. Volcom 85, I was hoping you would reply. I have an older Alpine 7892. I cant run the speakers active so I cant adjust slope. High pass on the head unit is flat,80,120,160. there is no eq, just bass and treble. They are set at 0. I sealed all the openings in the door the best I could. Maybe anothere layer of b-Quiet. I'll try adjusting the gains on the amp, but like I said earlier, gains on the amp are set at the center. Volcom, did you seal that big opening in the door? What did you use?

The Alpine 9887 is looking pretty fine right about now.
