purchasing a sound system
Hey everybody, I just signed up today and I am hoping to get my problems answered. I have a 2007 Ford F150 Supercrew Lariat 5.4L V8. I am looking into putting in a sound sytem in it but I dont know where to start. I'm looking for a system with some good quality pounding bass with also good quality speakers.
How much are you wanting to spend and how 'in depth' do you want to get into things??
With a seat lift people are able to fit a sub that has a mounting depth of just a touch under 7 inches, which opens the doors up some to some fairly nice 12's, which I would do if your wanting something that flat out pounds.
Start off with a GOOD head unit though....if you were planning on sticking with the stock one, then forget anything dealing with sound quality, or else I would just about forget the whole idea of a system. I will never again use a stock HU in any of my vehicles, nor suggest it.
Then your to your drivers. Personally I like a set of component speakers. Usually much better sound quality and over all build quality then a set of drop in coaxials, but they do take some work to get them to fit (making a baffle for the mid, cutting some of the door panel, etc). And a nice amp to power them. If you are NOT wanting to run an amp to your door speakers, then forget components and just go with a regular ol set of coaxials with a lower power rating and a high sensitivity (over 90db or so).

This is where everyone seems to get theirs. I have to say this though, like I do whenever anyone ask about a seat lift, if you have some decent fabbing skills I would try to make one because they are expensive for a few peices of metal IMO. I would make my own in a heartbeat before I bought one...cost me 20 bucks and be exactley how I wanted it.
