this is true. "breaking them in" means loosening them up. when you get them new they are usually a little stiff, so by playing it at lower volumes for a while it allowes the surround material to loosen up, which creates easier cone movement and increased excursion. this gives you more output, so yes when they are broken in they will play louder. shouldnt take more then a week or too, just check the surround material and when its not stiff anymore, then you can crank it.

most subs will only take a few hours at most to break in properly. your only wanting your surround to loosen up so that the cone can move in and out with as little effort as possible. odds are your subs are already broken in if you got them installed this weekend (saturday im guessing?). if you have been playing them since this weekend you should be good to go

if you throw 800 watts at a sub capable of 600 watts you will melt the voice coils. plus your subs are under your seat in a confined space instead of a wide open trunk, making it harder to dissipate the heat. i wouldnt push them too much farther then you already are.

post some pics of your install

mmm maybe, depends on the speaker. some can just take more power, some cant. a friend decided one day to overpower his L7, was around 850-900 RMS and the thing completely blew. its just a smart idea to run your subs at their rated level. its recommended from the manufacturer for a reason.

Well i was blasting them last night showing off at a party and then it started to smell like rubber burning, would that be the voice coils or them breaking in, because they were about 3/4 cranked up?

anytime you smell burning your riding a fine line straight to the magical blue smoke, did you set the gain with a dmm?
