new system cuts out?

I just put in a kicker 10" l7 and a boss amp. When hard bass hits the amp will shut off in protection mode. Is their a fix to this? is my sub overpowered, is it the amp? any help? im running 8 guage wire aswell.

the kicker is rated at 600 watts rms 2 ohm's and the amp is 600 rms x 2 ohm's.

.

8 ga wire is too small...also check your ground wire
As to the Amp, If I may say, Get a real amp... those 50.00 amps are just that, a 50.00 amp.....not trying to flame you, just tell you like it is....

at lease 4Ga, I would run bigger than that if there any chance of upgrading more in the future.... 0 ga or 1/0 ga would cover you well....

keep in mind that a Boss amp is putting out about haft (if that) of rated power and starts to clip, clipping will kill your sub....

Sell the Boss if you can, or use it for a door stop... look for a mono or bridgeable amp in the 300W to 400W range, some good buys on ebay, something like a Eclipse XA1000...

Regardless on the amp brand (i do agree with Truckin' that you could use a better amp) it should not be shutting down on you. The wire size could be a problem. Is the sub dual 2 or dual 4 ohm and how do you have it wired to the amp? It could be the voltage is dropping to low when it hits hard and that is causing it to go in to protect mode or that the sub is wired in to a lower ohm rating than the amp will handle. If you have the sub wired correctly, either 2 or 4 ohm final load, then I would get ahold of a multimeter and check the voltage at the amp when it is hitting pretty hard and see how it is measuring.

You may hit it on the head Doug, it may be a load problem... I just remembered solobaric are DVC D2 and D4 also.... I have never used one or even know anyone that has.....

Crash, Give us a run down on your wiring on the sub and is it a D2 or D4 L7 model??

The sub a dual 2ohm. I have it wired in the sub box for a 4 ohm load. Before I did parallel wiring backwards accidentaly at 1ohm and now i just changed it via specs on kicker.com. It does not cut out anymore, even when I try to make it. Is a 1ohm load louder than a 4ohm? can someone fill me in on the difference in ohms.

Although I fixed the problem for now, I want to put in another 10" kicker l7 d2. Can anyone tell me what 2ch amp would power these subs to their full potential? It hits pretty hard but I want it louder!

My budget is anything under $300.

Would this amp run two Kicker l7 d2 at a 1ohm load wired parallel to the amp?

ive heard hifonics are a better lower end amp and they have alot of power.

The impedance ("ohms") does does make it any louder or quieter... that is a measure of the resistance. Some amps can go lower, which means they can typically create more wattage from less voltage.

So, basically, don't worry about it now that you have it wired properly.

Cool, glad you figured it out...

as to adding another sub, it only going to get you about 3db louder, I would recommend again getting a good quality mono amp that will do around 450W to 500W @ 4 ohms and that is also stable at 2 ohms at a higher power level, this way if you do go with (2) 4 ohm sub they can be wired to 2 ohm load between the 2 subs.... this way you are cover for a upgrade to 2 subs without having to buy another amp again.....The XA1000 I recommended not going to work for you a 4 ohm....

also your 8ga wire will have to go, get bigger wire 4ga min....

Edit, the Hifonics TXi1508D would work nicely.... 450 @ 4, 900 @ 2...... As to quality someone else will have to chime in on that, I've only ever used Eclipse, ARC, Zapco....

so your saying that if i get a new amp at 450-500X4ohms my sub will hit louder than with my pos boss amp?

my friend has a treo 12" and right now his sub hits louder than mine, What can i do to get mine to hit like his? 12" sub, another 10", or just a better amp?

It should be louder as a quality amp will put out the rated power as listed, maybe even a little more and I'm sure the boss is way way way less than rated power level...... put a quality amp on your sub and you may be surprised how loud it can get....

does this mean if I wanted to upgrade to 2 subs that i would have to ditch my 2ohm sub and buy two 4ohm subs? or can my 2ohm sub plus another 2 ohm sub be wired at 1ohm for a higher power level?
