Need Help With System (Audio Noob)

Ok I dont understand too much about wiring, and what amps to use with what subs. I would like to put two 12's in my truck. Can I fit them under the back seat without having the box stick out? I have a super cab so feet space is already limited back there.

If I needed to I could make my own box. I have already taken my rear seat off for my body lift so if I need to hang my amp back there it would not be a problem.

Would 12in kicker comps w/ a kicker zx300.1 amp be a good combination? Could I run it with a factory head unit? Or would I limit the quality?

Sorry if some of the questions are dumb. I am trying to figure out this audio stuff as fast as possible.

Thanks

For a nice audio setup and some installation guidance man-to-man over phone you should hit up Travis at www.kcautosound.com A couple years ago he guided me through my first audio and security install. Got me set up with some great equipment and then schooled me on how to put it in. I've since moved on to working on all my buddies vehicles. He made an installer out of me...lol Just feels good to do it yourself.

Depends what you call good. Are you wanting to get loud? Sound crystal clear? A nice mix of both?
Although Kicker isnt exactley my favorite company for making great sounding subs, they can make some noise easy enough. A set of Comps with that amp wouldnt be to bad of a starter setup in my opinion.

Yes, you can run it will the factory HU. You will need to get a Line Out Convertor though, that will change the high level signal from your speaker wires into a low level signal (RCA type connections) that you can run to the amp. Only cost about 15-20 bucks.

And yes, music quality WILL suffer some from the factory deck, but many people are running all new speakers and amps off the factory deck and love it. I ran the factory deck in my old 99 for a short time and it really wasnt to bad.

No questions are dumb, everyone has to start out somewhere. Just ask away

I want to have good crystal clear sound, but I also want it to be loud. Crystal clear sound is slightly more important that loudness to me. What would be a good setup? How will the 12's fit under the back seat? Is there anyway to fit subs behind the back seat like I recently saw in that 01?

All depends on your budget.

There isnt anywhere near enough room to fit subs behind the seat. That is where a lot of people put their amps, and it works out pretty well.

There are some subs that you will be able to fit under the stock seat, but some subs will require a seat lift. I think some of the guys on here determined that you could fit a sub with a 5.75" mounting depth, as long as it didnt have crazy excursion.

.
I read that also, but at 5.75" and no seat lift, as best as I can tell you will get 1" off the carpet from the box, 1" for sub mounting distance and Xmax.... I would say 5" to 5.25" is more realistic.....

as to 12", you will need a seat lift, if not for mounting depth, just for volume.. I'm doing a Rainbow Profi 12" single as we type and it needs 1.4 cubes... thats more space needed for one sub that most dual 10" boxes gross at without a seat lift kit....

BTW: Bart, I got the box designed, been though 3 revisions this week using templates, but I got it pegged now, just got to build it now.... LOL...
