Newbie w/ questions

Hello I am new here but have spent quite some time reading thru the forums on here and have noticed that many people are willing to give their insight. So I was wondering if some of you guys could give me your opinions on what I have going on. Keep in mind I have no idea about how sound systems work.

What I want is a better sounding system than stock. More sound quality than loud. But I don't want to spend any more than I already have.

Here is what I have. Just bought a JL audio stealthbox w/ a 10" sub and a JL audio 250/1 amp. Then I also ordered 2 pair of JL audio TR570-CXI 2 way coax speakers for the front and rear.

Already had a sony head unit that is 52wx4.

Just wondering if all this will work together and sound good or not.

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Almost forgot. The truck is a 2002 F150 supercab.

looks ok, I'd ditch the rear fill, and lose the 5x7's up front for better components and then get rid of the sony H/U

Sorry to be ignorant, but I have no idea what rear fill means. What kind of H/U and components then?

Rear fill is the speakers you would be putting in the back.

Most people go with components in the front and some don't put any speakers in the rear.

snopro678, i am in the same situation as you are. You can read the responses to my posts. "Which system would sound the best" and "Best speaker setup question". The replies I recieved will point you in the right direction. If you don't want to read all of the replies, the bottom line is this setup:

Front Speakers: 6.5" Rainbows - Germaniums, then CMX's custom fabbed to fit the 5x7 opening and powered with at least 150W each

Rear Speakers: none if going without rear fill, or a decent set 5x7 coaxials powered by the headunit.

Sub: the JL stealhbox will work fine powered at least 250W.

Amps: a single channel amp for the sub (JL 250/1) and a two or four channel bridged for the front components (JL 300/2 or JL 300/4). Using two amps gives you flexibility. Most comments seemed to frown on a single multi-channel powering both the speakers and the sub.

From what I've learned, you will get the best quality sound by pushing the sound stage forward, like at an orchestra. This is accomplished by deleting the rear speakers, or by fading the majority to the front speakers.

Hope this helps!

Yes that definitely helps but I don't understand what you are saying in the front speakers section. If you could put that in Lehman's terms. Thanks a million.

He's talking about the front door speakers. He installed rainbow Gernanium (6 1/2 componets w/ an adapter to make them work in the 5x7 opening. I left my rear stage in for know b/c I have kids and don't always want them to hear what me and my wife are talking about. I haven't installed my amps yet but most of the time I keep it faded to the front.
Rainbows are high end (expensive) speakers. I went w/ Memphis componet in my front door 6 1/2 with a mdf adapter (homemade) and 5x7 coaxials w/ cross overs in the rear.
As far as head unit what kind do you want (dvd, cd, mp3 nav)
I have an Alpine 9883 but wish I would have waited for the Kenwood exceleron x591. (both single din and around $200)

After years in the business.. I'd say you've done well enough without asking us.

In fact, I'd say stick with your initial purchases, and if you don't like it... then come in and let the "gurus" diagnose your likes vs. dislikes.

Nothing really wrong with the head unit you have...

Keep it all, and give it a chance the way you have it first.

You already said you're going more for sound than loudness... shoot, you'll be loud with that sub and amp (the only thing I'd do is go with more amp -IF - you are not happy with the sound of what you've already got).

Let us know how it goes.

I really appreciate everyone's help. If I was going to go with components in the front what option would be a best value (quality & price). Don't want to spend what Rainbow's cost. And just cause I'm trying to learn all of this. What is the difference between a component and a regular speaker? Why are they better? Where do you mount the tweeter?

Sorry for all the questions but I've always wanted to learn about this stuff and now found a good place to do it.

Just wanted to know what crossovers are? And also what single DIN means?

Sorry just learning.

crossover direct the sound to the tweeter and midrange. It keeps the music clearer and also keeps from overpowering the tweeter.

Radio sizes are single din ~2" tall din and half ~ 3" tall and double din ~ 4" tall. If it's a 2004 up you have a double din but you can get adapters to make any of them work. Metra makes a good kit it's what I used.

So where does the crossover get mounted? I have a 2002.
