Is this normal???

Ok i have 2 10's in a supercrewsound box, which downfires(subs are facing the floor) and when they hit, they rattle..is that normal??

Also, when i turn the volume up the subs will cut off..i havent messed too much with the EQ (and if someone could help me set it up, that would be great cause i can barely feel the bass outside of the car) so i dont know if its any of the settings from that.

any help would be great

, the rattle can be any number of things. I'd try looking for loose panels on the box. that's what happened with my old jensen stuff. or a possible air leak. as far as the subs cuting out, it sounds like your amp is going into protection for some reason, possibly 'cause of incorrent settings on the amp , or shorting out at higher volumes. Where do you have the amp? possible over heating? and with 2 10's you want really be able to "feel" the bass outside but you can hear it.

Sounds to me like your amp is clipping which is very bad for the subs. If you had it installed by a audio shop they need to retune the system or you can do it yourself.

Post the model on the amp you're using.

a 1 ohm load , that amp is only stable down to 2 ohms. if that's how there wired that would be the problem.

jmt ia right, your amp can't handle 1 ohm loads. Are your speakers 4 ohm dual voice coils?

that's what I was starting to think. But would simply turning down the gain on the amp fix the problem, even though it's probly already done for

If it is making rattling sounds like I am thinking, those subs are already done for.

Do you have a volt meter? If so, put it on the OHM setting, then measure the resistance of the speaker wires that hook into the amp (unhook them from the amp first)

Unless some mechanical damage occured to the woofers (VC or spider coming unglued for instance) I am betting he is going to get a funky reading on the DMM due to toasted coils.

Edited to add: At least turning down the gains could help from possibly killing the amp too, assuming we are dealing with a clipped signal (most likely)

What is it when your sub is "clipped"?

I have a kicker 10" L5 with a max watt rating of 900, and I have it hooked up to a kicker 400 watt amp. its running at I believe 2 ohms, and the sub has 2 ohm voice coil. I wanted more bass and a stereo guy told me to turn the gain up, and I turned it up all the way. Sounds better, but will it harm my sub?
