Best Speaker Setup Question
Best Speaker Setup Question
Hey guys, I have an 05 Supercrew that I'm looking to upgrade the audio in. I'm want great sound quality not just loud highs and lows. This is what I have in mind:
JL Audio Stealthbox - 10" sub
JL Audio 300/4 Amp - 75W x 4
JL Audio 5x7 speakers - front-component and rear-coaxial
Use two channels of the amp to power the front speakers, use other two channels bridged to power the sub. Let the factory head unit power the rear speakers.
My question is which speakers would be better, the 5x7's components or should I put in 6.5" components in the front? What about the rear?
Any other suggestions are welcome!

Thanks for your ideas. I have never heard of Rainbows. I did a search and read some of the posts. But could anyone give me an idea of the best Rainbow for my set up and mybe an idea about prices?
i went with 6.5" Alpines in my front with 5x7 alpines in the back with a custom box 10" JL sub underneath the back seat..My Dual deck is 200x4 but my JL 6 channel A/B marine amp makes everything come together very nicely.. i love my system now..altogether cost around 1800-1900 with cables and everything needed to install..i am very pleased with it
as far as anything associated other then the subs with JL i would not go for..i've seen way to many people blow them and be disappointed in them,, i asked a local audio shop out here and they do not recommend them either.

I don't think you understand my question. I would like to know the Rainbow speaker ( ex. Rainbow model # xxxx) that will work best in my vehicle, and what the price is of said speaker. If the majority of owners are using a certain model or series and like it, then that would be the one I would be interested in. I don't want to be harsh or sound unfriendly, but posts like the one above do nothing to help my situation.

thats just the thing, rainbow has something for you... it just depends on if you can spend 100 or 10000 on a set of components
The JL speakers I had in mind are about $275 for the front set and $200 for the rear set, for a total of around $500. If there is a big difference in the Rainbows, I would be willing to spend somewhere around $500-$800. I would prefer to get the best model I can for the fronts and just a decent model for the rears. I am going to stick with the JL sub though, as I have had great past experiences with them. Thats why I was going to try their component speakers. I've had Sony, JBL, Rockford Fosgate, Boston Acoustic and wasn't satisfied with any of them.

I don't know, I've never left out any speakers before. How good can the rear seat passengers hear in a supercrew without the rear speakers?
If the rear seats can hear almost as well as the front, then yes, I would be willing to give up the rear speakers.
My little girl rides in the back and loves to listen to her "music" - nursery rhymes.

Well 99.9% of the time I have passengers. I tried leaving out the rear fill last night and this morning. I couldn't notice a volume or sound quality difference. However the sound did lose the surround feeling, I could tell the music was only coming from the front. However the addition of the rear sub will probably solve that.
So, If I leave the rear fill out which speakers would you recommend?
Also would it have a negative effect on the sound quality if I simply left the factory rear speakers in and let the factory head unit continue to power them?
Also, thanks for your help!
