sealed or ported box???

Hey guys, I was wondering if you guys could give your input on which box to go with? I have a single 10" MTX sub (thunder 5000) 250 RMS and 500 watts peak.
This would be going into my 05' SCAB. Any suggestions?

I have a bandpass box in my 91 probe gt, it's awesome. I wish there were room enough for a bandpass box in my truck.

I'm trying to figure out which type of box to go with that will fit underneath the drive-side rear seat. At first I was looking at the MTX thunderform box, but then I found some that are carpeted wood boxes that fit in that location but I just wonder what type of sound they will put out. Here is what I have found.
Ported

Sealed

What do you guys think would be better for Rock, Metal, & Country

ported has its advantages over selaed.... the main one being the 3 db gain. the disadvantage is you cant buy a one size fits all box like you can with sealed. ported boxed can sound just as good as sealed but they are going to take up twice the space to do soo, I would stay away from any prefab one size fits all ported box as you will probably end up with a less than stellar setup, if you have the time and knowledge a properly designed ported box can reward you greatly altho the f150 doesn't really have the space to do it right,

What he said.

You generally need a larger box if you go ported, and in a pickup like this, there just isnt a whole lot of room do it it, unless you have a sub that can get away with a tiny ported box.

I had a single 12 in a ported box in my last truck, and it did sound pretty sweet and didnt do to bad output wise, but the box took up a HUGE amount of space. Now, I have a smaller sealed box with two of those subs in it, and less power, and as far as output it kicks the ***** out of the previous ported setup, plus has a little better SQ. Not to mention I have my lows back

But if you do it right, a ported box can be awsome. Takes a little more skill to make ported box than a sealed also.

Where I found them...

The ported enclosure was listed under the SCAB/SCREW so I would assume it would work for the SCREW as well.
I read on the Crutchfield site that the ported boxes are supposed to be better for Rock, Metal, & Country

i have a 05 s-cab as well, with two mtx 10" subs. i used 3/4 mdf and me and a buddy built a box for both. it is a single box spanning the back seat. it is sealed, and carpeted. if you want, i can send you a "blueprint" if you will, or i will build you one for a little over materials price. i love the sound. i will try to get some pictures tomorrow, and let you see what you think. the only thing i did to modify the seat is raise it 3/4 inch. with carpet and all, you cant really even tell it is there. before you go buy a prefab box, let me send you some pics. and tell me what you think.
