2001 f-150 scab tweeter mount location

I was wondering were I should mount a pair of pioneer tweeters in my f-150. I have an Alpine 6830 (I think) head unit and 4-way pioneer door speakers in front and 3-way pioneer in the rear. I am getting ready to add a set of pioneer tweeters in the door and am thinking of mounting them were the mirror fins are. Any insight would be great. Pics would be nice to.

Thats where they were in my 99. I was able to have a flange on the backside of the door panel and just stick the screw through the speaker grille, so when I took them out, you would have never known they were their.

My soundstage was a little low with them mounted down by my knees pointed straight across from each other, but I fixed that easy enough by using the angled mounting cups for the tweets and angled them up some.

I placed mine up at the top of the door panel where it comes to a point, by the mirror.

Nope. To my knowledge you could never order the pre 04 models with any type of 'component' like front speakers. Just regular 5x7 coaxials. 'Premium' stereos just had a factory amp.

Andy-jr. could you post a pic of what your's looked like if its not too much trouble. I was going to mount mine, exactly as you described and I wanted to see how it would look.
also, what kind of tweets do you have?

Where to mount component tweeters on a 99 f150 regular cab

I've been thinking about this as well. I've got a 99 reg cab, and there is no stock location for tweets at all (like the 2004-2007).

I'm currently interested in the Alpine Type Rs. But I'd rather get the components than the regular speakers with the tweet in the middle of them.

I was looking at interior while driving around today. Here's a thought that came to mind.

In the door: install the regular Type Rs with the tweeters mounted in the center of the speaker cone.

behind the seat: install the components, because you're not going to get any good highs from the speaker location behind the seat.... then mount that tweeter behind each passenger's head, by the seatbelt? however, that might be a little bright... maybe pointing up behind the center console?

I want these tweets to either be hidden, or look stock. The triangle spot at the top of the door panel (behind the mirrors) is a perfect surface and angle, but I really don't want to cut that.

thoughts? other ideas?

Alright, after searching for the past hour, I found tons of photos of tweeter mount locations with pics, but not quite what I'm looking for.

What I saw
-In door panel fabric by the door handle
-at the top of the a-piller facing the glass
-at the bottom of the a-piller facing the glass
-in the door panel a few inches above the speaker
-clipped to the stock speaker grill
-in the stock kick panel, facing toward the seat
-in the door in front of the stock speaker
-in aftermarket kick panels
-horns mounted under the dash
-in the triangle by the a-piller/mirrors (is that called the "sail")?

Do they make aftermarket kickpanels with just a tweeter mount? it'd be nice to put the lows in the stock speaker location but the tweet in a kick panel pod..

I also heard a couple people mention installing the components behind them with the tweets by their head (which is what i'm interested in)... but I can't seem to find any photos of this. does anyone have any???

BTW, if anyone is interested, I just saved a ton of tweeter installation pics, I'd be willing to start a thread of them since it seems to come up a lot.

Please do make a gallery of them.

But I had my tweets flush mounted in the doors about 8'' above the mids in my 2004 Heritage. Imaging was very good, but not perfect. Did get me ranked as top 5 SQ systems in the NO metro. Just my .02.

I would mount them as high up as possible . You want the soundstage to appear at ear level , not at your waist .
