6.5" in front doors, 2004-2007?

I have a leftover set of nice Focal speakers I'd like to install in my stock location in the front doors of my '07 Extended cab. The diameter is too large to fit in the stock recess... has anyone modified the panel to fit a 6.5" in there? If so, can you send some pics?

Thanks
Robb

Here you go, how complicated are you willing to get...

The speaker grill reattaches and hides complete. Looks OEM

Looks good. I thought about doing a similar thing, but just modifying the factory platic cup so that the flange of the 6.5 would fit down in. I haven't had the whole door panel off to take a look at what is underneath yet. I'm pretty sure I could cut some slots for the flange to fit up in, and down in, but it might not be the best for SQ.

Cool plate adapters...

I was looking on crutchfield the other day and they sell a 6 1/2, 6 3/4 to 6x8 speaker adapter plate. It say it fits the stock front door location fine. I dont see how, but they say it fits.

You cant find it under adapters, but if you go to the "outfit my car" portion, and then go under speakers, you will see.

Here, check it out...

I have been kind of interested in this paricular setup, but dont understand how it would fit without modification of the panel.

Good luck

ford left plenty of room behind the speaker grill for "tinkering" I will be running a 7" driver myself and found that the best way to do this is to trim the speaker "cup" mount from the plastic door skin and mount the driver and baffle directly to the door

Do you know if that adapter plate that I described above would work without modification though?

Thanks,

The Ghost

In all honesty, I would skip the plastic adapter plates and go straight to MDF, as styx has mentioned. With the mids mounted on a solid baffle like MDF, you will get MUCH better response from your mids. Mounted to some thing plastic and the flimsy door panel just doesnt cut it IMO.
