Good setup or not?

I'm wondering if this will be a good setup for my O4 Scab. I dont want subs, but I'm looking for a setup that has more bass and better sound than the factory setup.

Headunit: Stock CD changer

Amp: Alpine 400 watt, 4 channel

Front Speakers: Alpine Type R 6.5" 2 ways with adapter plates.

Rear Speakers: Pioneer 3 way 6x8's, these are the ones made to fit Fords,Mazdas and Nissans. I can get a good deal on these.

Sound like a good setup? I'm new to stereos and have no idea what will sound the best. I really dont want to stick money into good speakers plus more into subs/amps. So I'm looking for a good compromise with just speakers.

Thanks,
Brian

Should work great for a little extra quality over the stock setup

Yeah, I was thinking it should be good. Just needed that little extra reassurance before I spend the money. I hate to buy it all and then not like it.

I've seen some cars that have pretty decent sounding systems that dont have subs. Plus I like a little bit of bass to bump too, but not so much I need the ground to vibrate.

Everybody I've talked to says the Type R's give reasonable bass when used with an amp. And the Pioneers I listened to seemed to bump pretty well also.

I think I might go ahead with this setup.

If you're not happy with the low end you can always use ch 3 & 4 to power a sub and let the HU power the rear speakers. If 3 & 4 can be bridged, even better.

Ahh, good point. I never thought of doing it like that. I believe the amp I'm looking at allows bridging too. I'll have to check on that.

I guess I can give it a try and see how it goes. Wont really know if I like anything until I have it and try it.

That is a good idea, run one sub maybe and you'd really clean that sound up. even a nice 8 inch would be better than nothing.
Also, where in MN are you buddy? I'm from up north on the border, Lake of the woods.

Well, I made the decision and ordered the system. I decided to see how I like it without a sub. If I think I need more bass I may upgrade to a 8" or 10" under the rear seat. They had a nice shallow box there that fits under the seat. They were out of the Pioneers that had the deal, so I went with Alpine Type R 5x7's for the rear.

I live south of the Twin Cities in Dakota county, but I have a cabin up in Cass county, about an hour out of Walker.
