Is the amp built in? If so, that sounds like your issue. If you play it at low volume, does it work? When exactly does it cut off? When you turn it up?

No I have a seperate amp "alpine" for it. now it stays off unless i push the sub inward. Does this mean I have a blown voic coil?? Ive checked all conections and they seem good from the amp to the enclosure. I did mess with the wire that are attached from the terminals to the sub and it worked for like 3 minutes and then cut off again. I dont usually play it loud so i hope I didnt blow the voice coil. Then again Fosgate stopped making these a few months ago and maybe this is why When it first happened the sub would only turn on at very high bass settings and go in and out. but wouldnt work on low bass, and now its not working unless i push it

While I agree that you could use a sub upgrade, I am not sure that we know that it's the sub that is the problem. You could test the outs on the amp with a multi-meter to make sure that you are getting the expected amount of power out of it on a consistant basis before you go start buying new stuff. That assumes you would rather stick with what you have if it works.

If you do want to replace the sub, you could do so pretty easily. Check your box to make sure that you have the appropriate air space. If you do, you can get one of these for about $100 and they are really good subs.

tinsel lead is either severed, or the voice coil is separated. New sub time if it's the latter... soldering, if it's the former, might work.

Like Iroc said, I would check the tinsel leads. They might be messed up.

If they are looking ok, get a Volt Meter and put it on the + and - of the sub, and put it on the OHM setting. You should get a reading around what the subs rated impedence is. Usually within 1 or so Ohm of what the sub is rated at, depends though...

Thanks for the replys, i took it to the the stereo shop and had it checked and the guy said the voice coil seperated. He said that the RF tube subs are known for this and gave me a 50$ credit to the store since it was just over the warranty Now its time to look at a slight upgrade. I have a 400 watt alpine amp just sitting there so are their any suggestion on an enclosure/sub combo that will go under the seat??

The sq doesn't get much better than that, 400 would be perfect for it too

I also recommend the Image dynamics idq10. you also might want to look at the elemental designs 11Kv.2 as well. both are really great drivers that work very well in moderate spl SQ installs
