upfiring 12s?

If I were to build a box with 2 12s firing up at the rear seat, would it damage the subs.
got the idea from this, it says it is for '04-up.

As long as they arent smashing into the bottom of the seat, it will be fine.

the box appears as though the subs will hit the bottom, plus the mounting depth for the subs is 5 3/4 inches.

Since your making your own all you have to do is design it to your specs...it depends on the subs, but you will probably have to lift the back seat so you can get your mounting depth, plus room between the box and seat bottom so the sub doesnt hit...

No it would not cause them to blow if they were slamming in to the bottom of the seats. I had a regular cab Ford Ranger that I had 2 10's in and the seats were all the way back on the subs with no grill and they sounded fine. By the time I sold the truck I had a ring on the back of each seat from where the sub was hitting. I kick myself for selling those boxes for $50 because it was the new style ranger and the boxes were custom built to allow for the most foot room, I think I couldn't go all the way back to the last 2 notches of the seat. The thing that it does is not all the sub to reach it's max excursion, which can cause some sound issues at higher volumes. I noticed a little with my 10's in the ranger but not enough to make a difference. The one thing that I would check would be to make sure there are not any reinforcement bars just under the seat cover that the sub may be pounding in to. If your subs don't have a long excursion and can accept them then I would say put some grills on there. You may have sit on the seat when putting the seat back down if you lift it up to conform the seat around the grill but this would keep the subs from slamming in to the bottom of the seat. If you do grills then I would check this first before I screwed them on the box and then realized that I couldn't get the seat to catch when getting it back down.

Ok, got curious so I called 'em and they said there is 1/2 inch between top of box and bottom of seat for sub excursion, and it also doesn't stick out from in front of the seat any. so for those who want 12's in their f150s, this doesn't sound all that bad.

The trick is finding a good 12" sub that is 5 3/4" or less in depth. The Image IDQ 12 is 5 3/4". Hmm, might be interesting. Anyone want to buy one and try it for us?

Also, if that box is 6" overall depth made out of 5/8" mdf that in only 5 3/8" depth which means they had to make a cutout under the holes for more depth. And, I do not think 6" will fit all the way up under the rear of the seat. All boxes I have seen are wedge shaped to fit the contour of the seat bottom. That is a lot of money to be wrong. How's there return policy?

Depending on how much xmax your subs have, it could be bad.
The underside of those seats just have cloth on them and no braces, dont then? That should give you some more space, your subs will probably will kiss the bottom of your seat though.

As long as they are really slamming into there they should be 'ok'. It the bottom of the seat is actually stopping them from full excursion that could possibly do some surround or maybe cone damage.

Just try it, and if its very bad, stick some grills on there then slam your seats down lol

Look in my gallery and you will see what a upfiring box with IDQ12's would be like.
