Help, don't know squat about audio....
Well, that's not entirely true, but close enough. I've got the Audiophile system with the sub and everything in my '05 FX4 and I've been considering upgrading it. What options do I have?
I figure I could swap out the speakers in the doors, would that just be a "plug and play" type of installation?
What would I need to do to install 2 10" subs?
Would I be able to use some of the audiophile hardware or would I end up replacing everything? Thanks in advance!!

New door speakers can be a 'plug and play' type of thing. You can get a harness that will plug into your factory speaker wire harness in the doors. It has a pigtale that you connect to your new speakes harness. Then, all you have to do is plug in your new speakers, screw em in, and your done. No splicing into factory wires or anything, and when you go to put the old speakers back in if you trade the truck or anything, there is no way they can tell that you even messed with the stereo.
To install the subs you will need a line output convertor if you plan to use the stock HU. It taps into your speaker wires, and converts the signal from high level, to low level (RCA type connections).
There are a few places online that you can get a box to stick under the back seat. Musicmooseaudio.com, supercrewsound.com are a couple, I cant remember the other ones. Amp can be mounted on the back wall out of site.
SO, if your looking to keep it cheap, simple, but still fairly nice, you can stick some new coaxials in the front door, rear to if you want, keep the factory HU. Use the stock wiring and everything there as long as you dont put an amp on them. Then, tap into your front speaker's wire to get signal for the sub amp, mount the amp on the back wall, slide a dual 10 box under the back seat and call it a day.
If you want to spend more money and get into it more, you can change the HU, amp the door speakers, install components in the front doors, etc.
