10" Sub Suggestions
10" Sub Suggestions
I'm tossing around the idea of putting a system in my new supercab, but after lurking around these forums for a while i am totally lost as to a good setup with clean sound. I'm not neccessarily lookin for the top of the line, but i'm not looking for crap either. So here is what i'm looking for:
1. 2 10"'s that will be going in a musicmoose box. Also amp suggestions are welcome.
2. Any suggestions on front door speakers
3. i will be getting an aftermarket head unit, maybe even a DVD player, if i can swing the money.
Thanks for all the help.

1) Subs: Arc Audio, Image Dynamics, Elemental Designs.
Amps: Arc Audio, Zapco
2) Anything from Rainbow
3) Alpine
A lot depends on how much you want to spend.

I'm looking a the alpine dvd head unit, as for the subs i'm looking at spending a couple hundred for the subs, and more for the amp. I'm not sure ont he prices of any of those, where are some stores that sell them? I'm familiar with crutchfield, but they seem to carry the big name brands only. Thank you for the advice, i'm going to start googling now.
I would even take a look at their amps. They too are a good value. The two I mentioned, Arc and Zapco, are pretty much cream of the crop and very expensive for their top models. Arc has the Kar line and Zapco has Iforce that are less expensive entry models.
The Alpine IVA-W200 is a great double din indash DVD. There are several of us on here using it.

For the amp would the NINe.2x be the one to complement 2 11kv2? And what would the best way to wire it? At 2ohms, 4ohms...(not really familiar with the best way of wiring these)
The Alpine IVA-w200 looks super nice and i love how it looks super clean installed, i'm just worried about how steep the price tag is. But you get what you pay for right? Thank you for all of you help Dconder, its much appreciated.
Also where is a good place to get the rainbow speakers that you talked about in your previous post? Thanks again.

The best person I would speak to is a member called 6spdcoupe on www.caraudio.com as he distributes them (I think brypink on here knows him and deals with him often). I have never purchased anything personally from him, but have read dozens of positives about him selling Rainbow speakers.

brypink can get you prices on the rainbows. You can go to www.speedsound.com carries some as well. www.iqcaraudio.com is another.
I think that amp would work great on the subs. You want to get dual 4 ohm subs and wire them in a series/parallel configuration to get a final load of 4 ohms. That way each sub gets 300 watts.

are the power line of the rainbow speakers nice? The other lines start to add up really fast, and its hard to imagine spending that much on two door speakers. Also to fit a 6.5 inch speaker i'll need to cut some of the door to fit right? Wouod the rainbow subs require their own amp, because when i glanced they looked like they can handle 150 watts.

I would look at the Sound Line. Brypink has the Powerline and the set he has run in the $1k range. The Sound line is kinda there entry line but, better than a lot of company's best.
You will need to trim the door panels to fit the 6.5. Its not bad. I am doing that right now.
Yes, you will need an amp for the sub or subs. One popular method is buying a 4 channel amp. Run the front components off the front channels and bridge the rear channels to run sub/subs.

I would run seperate amps if you can. And...here it goes, I like to recommend Zapco. Look at the reference 350.2 and 500.1. (or their AG series which just an older reference). I just sold my last Zapco 350.2 the other day for $225 (shipped). I like Zapco so I can use the Symbilink feature (I even think the newer iForce are compatible now) and amongst other reasons.
If you buy used Zapcos, which there's nothing wrong with that, both of my 9.0s were bought used...make sure they have an intact and untampered serial number (sticker) on the back. That way if you ever need to get work done on it Zapco will do it...they wont mess with any of their amps if the sticker has been tampered with.
About the Rainbows...If you can swing it, look at the Germaniums ($450), very nice set and very versatile. If not (and since you are running a sub) look at the SLC165 Kicks (about $260-70). I think you'll be happy, 99.9% of everyone is. The PowerLines (like I have) are $950...thank God I didn't pay that much.

I just recently bought a new 10" Kicker Comp VR. I love it. It wasnt very expensive, doesnt require a lot of power. Hits hard and accurate. Just a suggestion! Also have heard good things about the Alpine type S speakers.

With regards the the zapco amps, if i run 2 10's would it be better to run a 1 channel amp, or a 2 channel amp? For example you mentions the reference 350.2 and the 500.1. But which one you run? I'll probably be running 2 ED 11kv2.
For the door speakers, i was looking at the SLC265 which is jsut the component speakers. Would those be an improvement over the 165's?
Also what size amp would you recommend for the speakers? Thansk for the help.
