Custom door panels
Custom door panels
I am looking to get custom door panels installed in my truck, made of fiberglass, kind of like this:

Now that image is taken from a different car, and is not upholstered in what I am looking for, but the premise is the same. I was wondering if anybody else has done this in their vehicles, and if so, what filled them?
I am looking at the Alpine Type Rs right now, but what to know about spacing. Here are the specs on the Type Rs I'm looking at:
http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...&lang=en&tab=F
I am under the impression that it doesnt matter what speakers I get, because I can always build the enclosure to fit the dimensions, but I would always hate to mess that up. So my questions are basically 1) what did other people fill their panels with? and 2) could I make that fit with the space provided?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ive always wanted to but I dont know the first thing about fiberglass, so I havent even attemped it or made plans for it.
Space? Do you mean just space to make them physically fit, or airspace inside the pod?
I have no idea about fitting the pods on the doors...pretty much zero experience with the new style 150's for me...

I am a little confused too. Is this something you just want to do or do you need more space than the factory spot allows?
If it is a depth issue, the Type R should fit in the factory spot with minimal problems.

sorry for the poor wording. If I cut out all of the speaker panels and stoarge vents, then I will have a gigantic amount of room. I want to make sure that the enclosure for the speaker is the right size so it works well.
most automotive speakers ar designed for infinite baffle since 99.9% of the time that's how they will be installed. you can easily run up to about a 7-8 inch woofer with minimall cutting and still retain the factory apperance. don't make more work for yourself than nessicary
oh, no. im not trying to retain factory appearance at all. Like in the picture, I am cutting out and gutting the door panel, and fiberglassing an enclosure that will cover the speaker vents and storage. speaker will be exposed, fiberglass will either be upholstered or painted. but the fiberglass is giong to also be a seperate enclosure for the speakers. so i need to make sure that it is possible

Alpine is not a brand that I would recomend going through all that trouble for. if you looking to improve sound quality then look for a three way component set with a woofer around 7 inch and a 4-5 inch mid range and tweeter.
As for the fab work if you have not used or worked with fiberglass before I would not attempt this most audio shops should do it under 500$

Thats exactly what I was getting at a good two way wil work too. but then again a good two way will fit inside the doors.
