Speaker choices

I am looking at getting new speakers in my truck, but I have a question. I would like to get Alpine Type R components, but do not know which kind I want.

Alpine makes the speakers in a 5x7" and a 6.5" design. I am going to be building a custom enclose for the speakers, so I am not worried about wether or not it fits the already existing hole already in my truck, but I was wondering if there would be any difference in the sound quality.

Both speaker sets are the same price, but I have no idea if an elipse is designed to sound better than a circle, or vis versa.

Thanks in advance

Go with the 6 1/2" round. The speaker is more evenly loaded since the outer edge of the cone is the same distance away from the voice coil all the way around.

hey that makes a lot of since- thanks a lot for the help. Though I ahve to ask, why do we even have elipse-shaped speakers then? Why dont manufacturers just cut round holes?

If car designers and engineeres where enthusiasts in each aspect of the car imagine what we would get from the factory unfortunately not all designs are good ones
