I have a couple of questions. My parents bought me new speakers and an amp. I was wondering does an amp do any good without subs? I am thinking of getting 2 subs anyway but I want them hidden. I'd like for them to fit under the bench seat in the back. Is this possible? Hoe taller is a box and how wide? Also what can I expect to pat for 2 new subs? I don't want to spend a lot. Also my friend told me I'd need to get a new cd player. I have a 95 F-150 and my cd player is a 6 disc cd changer that sets under my center console seat. So if I get one of them fancy radios could I still hook it up to my 6 disc cd changer?

 

Well, first off fitting much of anything under those older style back seats is difficult. My buddy has a '93 that we built a box for to hold 3 10's, and we had to raise the back seat 3 inches. I cant remember how much room we ended up with under there...the bare minimun we could get by with-and they were shallower subs too.

A pair of new subs can range from 100 bucks to $1000+. Just depends how crazy you want to get, and what brands you go with.

Im assuming the reason your buddy thinks you need a new cd player is because your current one doesnt have pre outs. If its stock, or a cheaper model, it probably doesnt. However, you can still use it. You will need a Line Out Converter. It taps into your speaker wires, and turns the high signal into low signal for your amps inputs.

 

No he said the reason I need a new cd player is so I can adjust the base and stuff like that. What would be a good amp to get for cheap? Also I was looking at walmart at a JVC cd/radio replacement and I foundone that looked prettygood for $84 does that sound right?

 

Do you have a stock HU now or what is it? I can hardly believe that it doesnt have Bass and Treble adjustments at the very least...

What do you call cheap, and what do you call good? How much power do you want, and at what ohm? Got some subs in mind, or do you want to get the amp first then find subs that will match it?

On the HU, again, depends what you call good. There are tons of JVC CD player out there, I have no idea which one it could be. JVC, $84, and WalMart just doesnt do it for me. Might be just what your wanting though...
Id try to spend a little more, and you can pick up an Alpine or Pioneer. It wont be the best model you can get, but at least your into a nice brand.

 

Uh not sure about half the stuff you said. I have an amp right now but no subs. I am wondering what kind of sub would be good to get? My stock radio has bass and treble but thats it.

 

Im not a top audio knowing dude but this is what i know from my experiences. You should get a after market radio to be able to adjust your treble bass. and one that owuld be realy good is if u could adjust your mids lows and highs. The reason for this is so you can amplify better sound quality. Also the amp that you have is that a 4 channel 2 channel or what and what kind is it mono. Also for a subs you should get a mono amp. So a breake down of what i would suggest getting is.
A Mono amp for subs
if u have 4 speakers then a 4 channel amp (non mono)
A Cd Player that Lets u control your bass and treble at the least. But best is one that will let u control highs mids and lows

There is absolutley no reason to get rid of your HU unless you want to...

 

Its a 2 channel amp. I'm not sure of anything else because my parents are giving it to me for christmas. I am thinking my dad said it was either a kenwood or pioneer. They got it from Best Buy so hard tellin what it is. As far as how many subs I want...probably only 2. How big do I want them...not sure because I want them to fit under my rear seat but I have a feeling that that's be close to impossibly because of the space under the seat.

 

Alright I went into record seller the other day to lookat subs and cd players. The guy in there told me that a 2 channel amp isn't going to work with subs. I kind of want one of the cd players in there that are xm ready. Now I know the guy is trying to do his best to sell something but he also said having the xm radio improves the sound? Maybe because there is no static? Also do te make sub boxes to fit under specific trucks? Like I have a 95 F-150 extended cab 2 door and want the sub to fit under my seat. But I don't see that being possible with only about 6 inches or so to work with. Can you put a sub and box in the bed of the truck? I have a hard cover with a lock on it. Is alpine or pioneer a good brand for a cd player? I want one with a roll out screen too.

 

First off, go back and slap that guy for all of us You can run subs off a two channel amp easy. If you want to bridge it (gives you the most power), you just want to make sure your subs final impedence equals 4 ohm or more.
Unless you have a nice amp that can handle a lower load when bridged, those are usually higher end amps though.
I dont know if he is trying to say XM radio is better sounding than regular ol' FM or what. Id assume some. But yes, XM (or Sirius) satellite radio sound much better than regular AM or FM radio-its still not going to sound as good as an actual store boughten CD though.
Im sure there are boxes out there for your truck. I would check out ebay, musicmooseaudio.com, supercrewsound.com, places like that. The majority of them will probably lift the seat some (usually 2 inches or so) so you have a better variety of subs to choose from.
Subs in the bed....not unless your doing a blow through. Probably a little more involved than you want to get
Alpine and Pioneer are both good brands. A couple years ago I would have taken Alpine over Pioneer, but now, I think Id take Pioneer over Alpine...

 

Well like I said the guy was doing his darndest to try an sell a whole new system. I have another question too. My intentions are to get a new(new meaning newer) truck this summer. I am looking in the 98-03 range and was wondering what size speakers they have and if this cd player I will get will be compatible to this new truck. What I am asking is will I be able to transfer everything to this other truck? My plans were to spend the money on a new system and transfer everythin over to a new truck and put stock everything back in this truck.

 

95, I have no idea what size speakers are in a Ranger. The cd player will work, its just a matter of if it physically fits. Id say you shouldnt have a problem fitting the CD player in though, as long as its not one of those big double DIN sized units.

Id maybe check out a Ranger forum and see what they say.

 

I don't drive a ranger nor am I wanting to get one. Where did you get ranger from? I am actually lookin at a 02 F-150 Lariat Black and beige, 4x4,extended cab.

Anywho...the back speakers are the same size (5x7) however the fronts are different (6.5 round in your 95, and the 97+ models are 5x7's)

CD player will fit too. You will need an install kit to fill up the big space in the dash though ,since the radios in the newer styles are bigger than the one in your 95.

 

I said 97-03 range. Anyway so everything should be compatable? I may not have to worry about it. I may be driving a new truck friday.I think I have my parents talked into this I think its either a 00 or 02 cant remember F-150 Lariat. It needs new tires. It only has 60,000 miles. Sharp truck. I'd like to put an exhaust and tint the windows but that may have to wait.
