I have an '03 screw with the factory speakers. I don't know if they are the premium or not, but I think that they are. I have a pioneer hu. How much difference would I notice if I upgrade the speakers without adding an amp? What brand would you suggest, and should I do the front or the back first?

You wouldn't tell much difference without an amp, you could upgrade the front speakers, and leave the back speakers stock. As for what kind of speakers that I would suggest, you should go to a stereo shop and listen to them, and see what sounds good to you.

????

Having a 2003 myself - I noticed quite a difference changing out the speakers while still using the STOCK head unit.

Change out the head unit and you will notice even more.

Add an amp and you will notice even more.

Also speakers in a shop aren't going to sound the way they sound installed the truck.

I have done it in this order and heard the changes for myself first hand

One of the first mods I did to my truck was swap out all 4 stock speakers. I think I went with Pioneer 3-ways all around. I did notice a nice sound improvement at low-medium volumes. The problem was that the sound distorted alot sooner with the Pioneers than they did with the stockers. Reason being is that the factory HU doesn't push out enough power to satisfy any mentionable aftermarket speakers. So if you don't like playing it loud, then you'll probably be satisifed. If you like to crank it, then definately get an amp.
