So as I was designing my sub bix today, I was thinking...

If I want to get a killer system, I cant get it all at once. I could get a "decent" system but why if I wont be pleased. So here is my question. I want to add the following:

In Dash DVD / Nav
6.5" Components
5x7/6x8 Coaxials
2 10" Subwoofers
Amps to run them all

Maybe a more later but my question is...

In what order should I go about buying these things?

I would go in this order...

1. DVD/NAV
2. 6.5 comps with amp to run them
3. Rear speakers
4. Subs/sub amp

It really makes no difference at all...Id just try to get the comps and the amp for them sometime close to each other, or at the same time. Un-amped components are no fun.

ive got a HU and 2 12s im pretty happy with it for now, its not going to win me any shows, but it gives me the bass i want, and i dont like overpowering treble from speakers, my roomate has infinities and the treble is just too high and sharp, and there is no mid range out of them at all...

Yeah i agree with Bartak1. Get your HU first sense thats were it all begins. Then get your comps. some people when getting their subs before their comps get overwhelm with the sound of there subs and start over lookin or pushing aside there mids and highs down thew road and then eventually never getting to them.(not every1). and as for your rear speakers i would just go ahead and do them the same time u do your comps; therefore, you get a good sound quality from the the start. but thats just me im compulsive that way. anyways good luck and have fun.

Blood,

I may be rethinking the dvd player. I'll probably go off the factory HU. Im 16 and going to school all day so I have no time for a job. That being said, my monetary intake is pretty limited to birthday (September) and Christmas. So I may forgo the DVD HU.

If your going to be doing any kind of system at all, please go get an aftermarket headunit... even a $150 alpine or kenwood or pioneer and you will be so much more happy with its performance with all of your speakers, trust me, I hooked my system up to stock head unit, then went and bought the aftermarket, and it sounded like I upgraded my whole system.

ok, ill go with an aftermarket HU. but what if I used the rockford Fosgate 3SIXTY??? Would that be the same as upgrading the HU??? I want a more stealthy look and I'm not a big fan of the colorful HU's. If i were to go aftermarket HU id probably go with a Alpine-IVA W200 but thats out of the price range. anyone have experiance with the 3SIXTY??

do it right the first time. save up what you need to buy the w200. you'll be glad you did in the end

Don't forget though that if you get the W200 it's pretty limited SQ function wise (for it's price when compared to other double din's), and you will possibly want to get the PXA-H701 to go with it.

Really all depends on how much you want to spend and what your ultimate goal is going to be.

Do as BestNTx said and get a $200 single din HU. Before spending that sort of money on a DVD playing HU you have to ask yourself just how often will you be watching a DVD sitting in your truck. You can't (legally) watch a DVD whilst driving, and have to modify the unit to do so, the W200 does not have navigation etc.

I understand about wanting to keep the stock look (I am exactly the same) but unless you are prepared to (or can afford) spend $$$'s on a double DIN then it's single DIN or stock HU. The stock HU is not worth it, and for the price of the Rockford 3Sixty you may as well get an aftermarket HU. There are aftermarket HU's that are not overly flashy....... Pioneer 880 PRS is one that comes to mind, and I think most Nakamichi units are very unflashy.

id also recommend buying a headunit. buy something of quality, with 3 sets of RCA outputs.

as an installer, heres my input

stock - least sq, yeah itll work , but why cut the corners

crappy aftermarket unit, like a dual or jensen - youll be making good friends with yoru installer and coming back to us to replace it often

aftermarket wtih fewer sets of RCA's - you will need RCA splitters, #1 they cost money, #2 - splitting the RCA's you will lose voltage and will have to up your gains on your amp

aftermarket with 3 sets of RCA's - one for the front, one for rear, one for woofers; its a good product and will last you long time. i recommend alpine

1) headunit
2) component fronts and amp
a. wiring kit and distribution block (makes it easier to hook up your second amp later)
3) woofers and amp
4) speakers for rear fill

I agree too, but I figured since he had them on his list...

But Matt, if your looking to save money, ditch the rear fill and just get a 2 channel for the comps instead of a 4 channel for the comps and rear fill...

RCA splitters do not split the voltage. Think of it like a car battery, you can hook up all the things you want to the battery, and each accesory will still get 12-14 volts, instead of the voltage being split up between the accesories

A nice aftermarket HU is nice too, as everyone has been saying. Sure the stock one will work fine, for decent sound. Some people dont mind it at all, and a lot of people could care less about the sound difference, but if your picky about the SQ an aftermarket deck is the only way to go IMO. One time I had a HU crap out on me and I had to throw the stock HU back in with LOC's to run the amps, and I just about cried; I could hardly stand the sound...Im picky though
