Is this estimate idiotic or realistic?

So I met a guy that is in the audio business at my work a couple weeks ago and it just so happens that I am in the market of getting a stereo set up in my '04 SuperCrew...

Originally I planned on puttin one 10 inch W3 underneath my back seat with the supercrewsound box. the rough cost on this would be the following:

New HU: 140
Sub: 175
Amp: 250
Box: 150

Which equals a little over 715.

I went down to his shop and he explained that it is difficult to put a lot of bass in our trucks, basically everything I knew.

He explained that he could lift the seat and put a 10 inch solo baric L5 under there and the price would be the following:

Seat lift and box: 500
New HU: 140
Sub: 150
Amp: 250

So now I am looking at a little over a thousand dollars...

What I am wondering is: will I really feel and hear the difference for 3-400 dollars and risking them messing my truck up?

Thanks guys!

Spiro

an L5 will be louder but sound like crap. kicker doesnt know a diff between sound quality and a hole in the ground (while somehow in the mix of things i think their component speakers are actually not bad)

the prices for amp and headunit will be dependent on the equipment they give you. the prices on the woofers are average. price is a little high on hte seat lift and box, but custom labor isnt cheap these days

the amp is something that I have already purchased... it is a JL Audio 500.1 mono block.

The prices on the subs are definite as wel.. I just wonder if the cost of the labor to do the seat lift is going to be justified in the sound quality and if there is not going to be much of a difference why bother messing with lifting the seat and having to tear my truck apart you know?

anyway, any other opinions?

if your gonna lift the seat you might as well cram a 12 under there. maybe like a single Hype-R. 500 is about right for a custom box and labor to install.

I agree with styx. If you are going to go to the expense of a seat lift, get a better sub than the L5 for sure. A seat lift kit from LMI is around $150. You could always build a box yourself and be a lot cheaper than $500. There are a few really good 12" subs that will fit with a seat lift that will blow the L5 away. The SI Mag is one but, it is costly. The Arc Audio and Image IDQ are a couple more. They run in the $150 range and are awesome SQ subs.

I agree with the above...do your own work and go with a 12". Save money on labor and use it for better quality equipment!!!
