Need advice on setup
Need advice on setup
I have been up for hours now combing the net looking for some options on speakers to replace my factory ones.
I am limiting my speaker selection to Kenwood Excelon because everthing in my truck is Kenwood except the factory speakers of course. It seem as though Kenwood doesnt make any Excelon speakers that are the same size as factory, or that is the route I would have went.
So my question to you speaker gurus, gods, prodigies, etc. is.........what size/model# Kenwood Excelon speaker can I use with the least amount cutting, drilling, etc.?
I defintely want two or three way speakers I have a KVT-815 HU. I also want speakers that do not need to amp'd.
Which sound better a round speaker or an oval speaker?
Any Suggestions......remember Kenwood Excelon only please!

probably would have been better to ask what size speaker can i fit with the least amount of modding, then pick your model of your favortie brand from that point....
And sorry i dunno b.c im still running factory door speakers for now.

No offense, but anyone who would be considered an "Audiophile" wouldn't know much (at least not from personal experience) about Kenwood/exceleon products.
They are much more of an entry level type product, not bad, but not audiophile-like in quality.
That said, you can get some 6.5 seperates up front fairly easily with a little 1/8th inch ABS plastic custom fit as a mounting plate and mild trimming on the door panels. *looks* 100% stock when put back together.
Other 5x7/6x8 is the "biggest" you can go without trimming issues.
HOWEVER, ALL that considered... running any "High-end" speaker on deck power is a MAJOR no-no. High-end speakers requires lots of power to really do their thing... 75rms is basically the starting point if you want volume AND sound quality. I would suggest some simple 5x7 2 ways and call it a day on deck power.
Good luck!

please dont buy kenwood speakers. i think lumadar summed it well
kenwood does fine on headunits and amps (my sub amp is an excelon that pushes lunatic power) . . their speakers and woofers dont fare as well in my mind
a lot of companies like alpine and kicker now make 5x7 components that bolt right in, you just have to holesaw a hole for the tweeter hole

Yea I definetly want to keep it simple. If I was to buy higher end speakers and put an amp on them, then I would have to run new wire for the speakers? Definetly dont want to do that !! My stockers are blown and one does not even work at all, so I really just want the best speakers I can get and run them off deck power.
I figured kenwood would make great speakers as do they make other great componets of a stero system, but I guess I have been informed otherwise!
So having said that, what would you suggest I get? Would it be best to keep the same size speakers front and rear, or have two different sizes? 2-ways, 3-ways? Remeber keep it simple, little to no cutting and no power adder!
Suggest away!!!!
BTW.....thanks guys for taking the time to run some ideas by me!

MB Quart discuss comes to mind.... MB Quart makes a very very good speaker.. their discuss line allows you to run off of deckpower or amp them... check out woofersetc.com for some good prices on them.
buy components.
i dont recommend MB quarts anymore. they are now owned by maxxsonics. i like MB's mids but their highs are innacurate and harsh
try alpine's type S component set, they are sensitive enough to run off of headunit power
