Sub Question

So... a few weeks back, I got a sub and amp and built the box and insalled it. I layed down a shelf type thing for the entire back( i have a 06 reg cab) and put the sub kinda off center to the left in the middle. It is in a slanted box firing pretty much into the cab. I know abolutely nothing about subs until now so I need some feedback. Is this a good setup? Its kinda annoying having it off center but I cant move it because of the stupid seatbelt post. I like the sound but im curious of what you would do in my situation. I have plenty of wood left over so im ready for a complete rebuild.

I kinda need room to hang guns behind my seat and this setup has the sub firing directly on them... want to change that. also it prevents me from reaching anything behind the passenger seat.

Thanks for any help or advice. I can take pictures if needed

The location of the sub shouldn't make much difference. As long as it's not bothering you, it's fine. I would try down-firing the sub (meaning the cone is facing the floorboard). You will get an overall better sound using this approach, especially since you are using only one sub. Also, make sure the total enclosure area of the box meets the specifications of the sub (i.e. if the sub requires 1.2 cubic feet of air space for optimum performace, the dimensions of the box should be close to this).

Ive been thinking about downfiring. I think ill mount it on the drivers side then. How much clearance does the sub need for downfiring?

Ideally, a couple of inches but, as long as the sub does not hit the carpet when it plays, you should be fine.

Yah ive got about 1/4- 1/2 and inch of clearance and they work just fine, that is clearance to the outter lip of the sub, the cone is way back behind the lip. I have probably about 1" to 1 1/2" of clearane from carpet to cone when it hits.

See sig for pics in sub box thread and in gallery.

sound insulation is called neoprene sound deadener, or something to that ring, i believe i mentioned that in my thread, somewhere about 3/4 of the way through. Also posted a link to the thread that i heard about the sound deadener in the first place.

Hey Achap, Im looking into getting an 04+ reg cab, and I was wondering about some measurments. How deep is your box towards the bottom where the subs are, and how long is it.

I have a box that is 8 inches deep and 53 inches wide, by 14 inches high, and was wondering if that would fit in one or if I would have to make a new box.
Please share any info you have with me You can be my new best friend

The rear shelf thingy has 10 inches of depth easily. But im pretty sure that you will have to either remove the seatbelt post or alter the box to fit the seatbelt post. It's about 1/4 of the way from the drivers side door and sticks out 2-4 inches depending on how high you are on the post.

Awsome, thank you for the info. I guess I havent looked at an 04+ reg. cab enough to notice the seatbelt post. Ill find a way to make it work, even if it somehow involves a torch and sledge hammer

Do you think that type of box would fit in a old body reg cab 2004(STX)? What are your specs?

This box will not fit your truck but don't worry, your truck will be much easier to make a box for since you do not have to account for the shelf factor or the seatbelt post. Im sure theres alot of pre built old body boxes out there but I dont have any experience with them. Sorry I coulndnt help.

yeah the box should fit...the width will be tight. Make sure to make room for your amp...mine is on the floor on the other side of the speakerbox. No room after that. As far as the seatbelt thing...the 04's do not have the seatbelt thing on the back wall...i think the 05-06's do. And im glad!
