New Speakers

I am looking for all 4 new speakers in my 2000 supercab and was wondering what would be a good upgrade from factory but I would prefer something that will sound good without an amp. Thanks for input..

If you're going to run some new speakers without an amp off of the head unit just get some good coaxils or something with a high sensitivity. I feel that a good set of Infinity's in the front and some polks in the rear give a good 1 2 punch. The Infinity's hit the highs and the polks do pretty well in the mid range. Just make sure that you put some deadening in your doors because I didn't and now I have to go back and do it because the sound just bounces around in there if you don't. All in all, you could do this upgrade for well under $250 or maybe even $200 (with the help of ebay) and it would be a pretty good upgrade from the crappy paper stock speakers. Good luck and have fun!!!

I just installed Rockford Fosgate pc1683c (6x8 3-way) speakers all around - they woke up the factory stereo in my '02 in ways you can't imagine... It has the premium system, with the cassette and cd changer under the center console tray. Crutchfield.com is a good source, they provide speaker connectors for a no-brainer install.

The best thing to try to do is go to various shops and listen to the speakers, because its impossible to tell how they will sound just by looking at pictures and specs. However, if you cant listen to the, the next best thing thing to do is to try to find something with a high sensitivity rating as TheArcher said (around 90db or more), the higher the rating, the more efficient the speaker is, and it can do more with the small amount of power you have, coming from the stock HU. From there, just do some homework on the internet or ask us hear, see what brands have a nice repution, and which ones to stay away from, etc. And I know thats what your asking us now, but Im pretty much trying to say, YOU need to try to listen to some, and make a decision, because for example, I might brag something up and suggest it to you because I think it sounds good, but it could be the totally opposite of what you think sounds good...

Deading the doors is also a good idea. Heck, I remember Brypink saying when he deadened his doors, it made quite a big difference in the sound of the stock speakers, and they actaully sounded halfway decent.
