2006 supercrew install
2006 supercrew install
new to the world of f150s, but not new to stereos.
i'm going to start an install this weekend on my buddy's 06 supercrew.
i tried to talk him into a doing a screened unit, but he doesn't want to spend that kinda money right now. the way he puts it, he would rather get a nice headunit and a spray-in liner instead of a screen. anyway, i think he's pretty much set on an Alpine CDA-9856 for the headunit. it's a really nice headunit for pretty much dirt cheap.

he already has some Kicker KS68s in the front and rear doors. not a permanent setup, but sound great for now. i'm talking him into swapping in a component set up front.

for subs, it looks like we're going to go with two JL Audio 10W1v2-8s. they have a 4.34" mounting depth so they will fit in aftermarket enclosures(<5" mounting depth) without having to do a seat lift....which is out of the question for him. we were going to order an enclosure from www.subthump.com which seem to have the nicest boxes, but i called a local audio shop and they have an enclosure in stock for a few bucks less, and no shipping. if he was willing to do a seat lift, i would get him running a pair of 10W3v2s.

for the sub amp, i have a profile amp that he was actually using in his old truck for one JL sub, that we're going to run these subs. it's a perfect match power wise, i don't need it myself, and one less thing for him to need to buy, so why not.
still looking into an amp for the speakers, but kinda holding off on that until he decides about possibly swapping out the front 6x8s for a 6.5" component set.
how does that sound? i guess i know it will sound good, but not sure how these two lower powered subs (150w rms) will fill the bigger cab. he had a 10W0 in the regular cab dodge he just tradded in for this super, and it sounded great and filled well because the cab is so small.
all in all, this won't be a high dollar setup, but should sound pretty decent. $89x2 for 6x8s, $199 for h/u, $99x2 for subs, free (to him) amp, then a few bucks for wiring. yada yada....$800 stereo. not too bad.
in return for letting him continue to use my amp, i'm taking the JL 10W0 and putting it in an enclosure in my wrangler.

Sounds like it should be a pretty decent, low buck stereo.
If just a single 10w0 was enough for you guys in his Dodge, the two 10w1's should work out nicely for you.
If you need any help along the way, just let us know, guaranteed there is someone that can answer your question. Well, almost guaranteed

I'm working on a system that is "budget friendly" also. I know that some fans are loyal to their brands, and you may have your mind set on the JL Audios, but I will post this on here to help you or others.
Crutchfield has the MTX Thunder4500 10" subs buy 1 get 1 free. I wanted a sub that wasn't too deep, and the MTX was just under 4 3/4" bottom mount, and 5 1/8" overall height. They sell for $89.99 each, but when you click on the "Add to Cart", it will show the 2nd one for free. My pair arrived last week, but I haven't built a box yet. Heck, with the $89.99 I get to keep since the 2nd sub was free, I may use that to pay for a pre-fab box.
225 watts rms power, 450 watts max
frequency response: 35-150 Hz
sensitivity: 87.6 dB

ehh, not really into MTX stuff. their subs really aren't all that great, and their amps were nice back in the day. a lot of their stuff these days is poop. the JL subs are only $100 a piece, so they are not breaking the bank.
he stalled on the install this weekend b/c now he is reconsidering going with a screen h/u.
