1 10" or 2 8" subs

I bought an Alpine SWE-1042 10" sub (open box item) at Best Buy for $99, and was told by the salesman that they go for $199, but they were on sale for $135. Afterwards, I find out that Crutchfield sales them new for $79, so then I feel cheated by the salesman. I want to build a box for under the rear seat of a 2002 F150 Super Crew, and this sub fits snug without a box.

I noticed that I can get 2 Rockford Fosgate P18S4 8" subs for $80 plus shipping at Crutchfield. I feel slighted by Best Buy's salesman, but that was probably my fault also. I am planning on returning the 10" and buying a pair of 8"ers instead. I mainly listen to rock, so losing the "bottom boom" with 8" really isn't an issue, and I haven't bought an amp yet, so the power-handling difference between these 2 subs doesn't matter either.

What would you recommend?

I think that one ten would work better and you wouldn't have to take up as much space. I have this box in my supercrew with a Kicker Comp VR 10" sub and is sounds great. You just have to find a sub which meets the boxes minimum air space and mounting depth.

I should have checked the overall height first because this Alpine is 6 9/16", and if I put a piece of 3/4" MDF, the seat is resting on top of the woofer. Not sure if this would damage the woofer, or muffle it, but I don't think it would be good for it. I do not want to buy a lift kit for the seat, so if I am to stick with a 10", it would have to be a different model.

Yeah, I didn't want to raise my seat either. The same guy who's ebay listing I gave you also sells boxes with subs already in them. That way you will know that it fits. Maybe you can take back the one you bought, or sell it.
