Shallow Mount Subs

Just wondering if anyone has listened to any shallow mount subs. I found some by Pioneer and Earthquake. I think they would be perfect for under the rear seats of supercrews and supercabs, apparently the subs are only 3" deep and need very little air space.

I am thinking of using these for a system in my truck, but i am looking for insight from anyone who may have these or a similar subs.

Try the treo ssi's from treo engineering. I think they're mounting depth is 5.25(correct me if im wrong). They're a great shallow mount sub with plenty of bass.

You could give these here a try. Only have a mounting depth of 3 inches.

i would buy

1) the treos

2) the elemental designs from ICIX

3) the pioneers

treo makes a high quality product excelling in sound quality and output. its thin and works in smaller boxes. elemental is also good, but not treo good; its got good sq & output and lives on small boxes. the pioneers are ok, the are moderately loud and snappy but i don tlike their sq characteristics

I have never heard these but these have won several awards overseas. Only problem is they are tough to get here in the states, a pair will pop up every now and then on ebay. I have heard they rival the upper end competition subs.

You get what you pay for and remeber the magnet does have a large impact on what the sub is going to sound like, performance, etc.... There is always the theory of the larger the magnet the deeper the bass and louder the sub, notice I said theory. The thing is that look at the higher cost "better" subs and do they have small 5-10lbs magnets, nope, normally around 30+lbs. If all you are wanting is some decent sounding bass and nothing that booms then you could easily get that from a couple of 10's or even 8's for that matter that would not require a seat lift or large boxes. But if you want bass that you can feel then your going to need to move a lot of air. Most of these shallow mount subs do not have a large excursion, therefore do not move as much air. Also there RMS values are low in comparsion to the upper end subs. Just my 2cents

The Phoenix Gold RSD10d actually hits pretty hard and is pretty shallow too. It's not the hardest hitting sub i've ever used, but for a 10" combined with the price it's a very good value. Take the magnet cover off and it's only 4 7/8" deep. It has A LOT of excursion though and I had to weld up a custom grill to keep it far enough off the floor of my truck to keep it from hitting. The stock bumpers that came with my Audio Enhancers enclosure just weren't long enough for anything but the 80$ and cheaper subs.
