2004 F150 SCab questions...

Alright, the sound in my truck sucks as it is stock. I upgraded my head unit to a JVC KW-AVX706. It should be here any day now.
Now I want to upgrade the speakers to some quality. Any suggestions? What size are they and how many? I dont want to pay tons, just something relatively better than what is in there now. Any help?

That is the brand name that he's talking about. Never heard them in person myself, but I hear they are suppose to be top notch.

And when you run them off the deck power of a JVC indash unit, they'll make the factory speakers sound like a live performance.

Sometimes, you have to match the budget to the expected level of performance. It's all well and fine to come on here and compare a $400 pair of speakers with a $420 pair of speakers. It pi$$e$ me off when a question is asked like MeBreezy's, too many people want to show off by giving the name of some esoteric high dollar POS that is anything but a realistic answer to the question.

Running off the JVC deck, a pair or two of Infinity Reference Series, Pioneer, or other $100/pair speakers will sound good. Stepping into the $150 price point, the Boston Acoustics are a real nice set of speakers.

MeBreezy, go shop a couple car audio stores, or even BestBuy/Circuit City, and take your favorite cd in with you. Listen to a couple speakers, but only a few at a time. When you've fiound the right sound at the right price, get 'em.

Are you directing this towards me????? Because if you are Shippy...take a look at the Rainbow website. They have awesome entry level lines that will realistically BLOW away those POS brands like Infinity & Pioneer. I'm so sick of hearing about Infinity and anyone who recommends them obviously has no experience in car audio or what a quality system should sound like.

Rainbow is a German company specializing in car audio SPEAKERS. They have 12 different lines and various models within those lines. They are devoted to R&D...not just for the rich audiophile, but for the average consumer who just wants different speakers than stock!

Get over it OnBelay...

The size speaker we have in our truck is 5x7 (6x8). You have 4 speakers...one in each door.

Again, I will suggest Rainbow. Look at there X Line, Dream Line KX, Dream Line SLX, Sound Line SL and even Sound SLC lines. All of which are under $230 (except for the 3-ways). Since Rainbow is a German company, it might be hard to hear them before you buy them, but I will put them up against anything other brand (in their price range) for SQ.

You should really think about an amp after getting the speakers...it will help bring out the true potential of most speakers.

Sorry, forgot to post their website and link:

http://car.rainbow-audio.de/products...hp?lan=2&pro=1

They have speakers ranging from $100 to $12,000 depending on your level of involvement in car audio.

What's your budget? You mention audiophile...I assume you only gonna run a front stage. I'm only running my rear speakers for 5.1 and I can turn them off when I listen to 2 ch music.

The SLC's ($230) are a great entry SQ pair of speakers. If you can swing it...I would go for the Germaniums ($450 approx.) or even the Profi's (start in the mid $500's). If you don't have a sub or saving up for one (and if you are creative) look at the CSX 465.20 that has a double midbass. The midbass has a phase plug that assist in great mid-tone projection. These mids are almost like the Focal Utopia mids...but a heck of a lot cheaper!!!! If you don't want a double midbass, then the CSX 265.20 is the way to go.

If you want a more dynamic mid, then look at the aluminum cone SAX 265.20. I don't have the price of the CSX 465.20, CSX 265.20 and SAX 265.20, but can get it for you.

Rainbow don't have too many distributors in the US and/or retailers so it will be hard to audition them, but there is a reason why I dumped all my mid/high set-ups over the years and decided to get a pair of their PowerLines...and I'm running them passive vice active to boot!

I'll say this again...Rainbow is devoted to R&D and emphasize on car audio speakers. They just recently introduced their subs and amps, but their passion is speakers.

If you need/want more help or info...shoot me an email. I'd be glad to help. brypink@***.net

sup bry! this is the mother f'in big ken dizzle from the ftw ca chapter!

and no bry is not showing off his knowledge by throwing unnobtanium style brands at people. he gives pretty good advice.

infinity and pioneer (and even boston's lower lines) are average products, and incredibly paltry compared to what you can get by shopping around. in my honest opinion, they suck, even for the price. just cuz you shop with a budget doesnt mean you cant get something very nice. i dont trust observations in listening rooms either . . cabin gain and other factors will guarantee they wont sound the same in your vehicle; sure you can tell the absolute differences but you can only compare them contextually

IMO the only cheaper big-brand component set id recommend is the alpine type R. they can be had for 150 shipped per set on ebay and they do make a 5x7 set to fit our doors. that costs marginally more than the cheapie brands and gives you more return for your investment. pair it up with the alpine T220 2 channel amp (80-90 shipped on ebay) and thatll have you set for a rock solid budget front stage

ps - mebreezy, if you are trying to keep the price to an absolute minumum, try the alpine type S components, they are designed to be efficient and run off a headunit when you cant get an amp

What's up Big Ken! How's DFW? You know I'm from San Antonio...my parents lived up just south of Dallas for a while, too.

I only give "pretty good" advice??? lol That's from someone that is recommending Type R's lol J/K bro. The dizzle gives pretty good advice too! lol

I'd still put a couple of these Rainbow sets (in the same price range) up against the Type R's though.

Well, with school around the corner, my budget is about $0 but I do consider myself an audiophile, however have no experience with car audio. I just know my stock setup is horrible. Ask me about home/computer audio and I have all the answers.
I do know it will be front stage only, I have a regular cab so no passengers behind me and I wont be getting DVD or anything so really have no reason for 5.1 surround sound.
