Little help, L7 & big amp location ?'s
Little help, L7 & big amp location ?'s
without having to have something custom built.....Anyone seen an L7 enclosure for a supercab 2005 FX4? I posted on my car stereo forum and haven't had any luck.....
Also, I'm sure someone's run into this already.....My amp is close to 2 1/2 feet long for the subs and I have a second of about the same size for the interior speakers. I've only had the truck for like a week or so now and it's in the shop for custom paint, lift, etc...I have not had time to disassemble things and start looking around. But i would think the only feasable place to put them is behind the back of the rear bench seat....is there room back there to hollow out any part of the seat or space to put stuff? What have you guys done with the same problem.

There is plenty of room behind the rear bench for those amps.
I have two 10" L5's and it was a pain in the *** to get them in a downfiring box.
Assuming that this is a 10" L7 you are going to need seat lift for the rear bench seats before you even begin trying to fit that sub under the seat. There are threads everywhere on this site where you can read about seat lifts.
Now for the bad news... There is not a box that is fabricated for the F150 that will hold a Solo Baric Sub. You will have to buy a box and make a square out of the circular hole ( which is not hard), and then add depth to the box. The magnets on these subs are huge.
The easier way will be to have a custom downfiring box made if it is in the budget.
That is the experience I have had with Solo Barics, I have more information that I can post later if you would like.

I'm glad to find someone that's done what I'm trying to do. I have the ability to make custom boxes myself and in fact have made some ported one's for some 10" l7's in my stang. I'm curious as to what you did and how it sounds. Did you purchase boxes and modify accordingly? I will build my own should i have to, but I was hoping I didn't have to go to that extent being I'm not looking to enter competitions or anything. Did you resort to mounting your amps behind the seat? or even below the seat? Never had a set up where there wasn't alot of circulating air to keep things cool. I've been thinking that my amps, especially the the sub amp, may over heat...do you have any such problems?
Do you have any pics of you're set up? I'd be interested to see....THANKS

I am using an mtx 600.1 which is not fan cooled, and I have never had it shut off due to overheating. I doubt you will have a problem. If you are planning on only running one sub then you can put the amps under the seat, but having on the back wall is great, because the average theif will not be able to remove the back of the rear seat.
I purchased a box from ebay seller "luck7audio". It is a great sounding box, but I do not reccomend you buying from him. I then made depth modifications accordingly which was somewhat of a task, but it kept me busy for a day. With that being said, I would spend a weekend building your own custom box for the cleanest install.
The sound quality that the two downfiring 10's put out is amazing, and I could not be any happier with the sound. I love Kicker products.
I did not take pictures of my install and I now regret it becuase I have no way of showing off my work. I can take a picture of the way the box looks under the rear seat for you if you would like.
I am still assuming that this is a 10" L7 that you are trying to install. If it is not I would suggest a 2"- 3" rear bench seat "lift". That way you will have plenty of room to work with under the seat. Getting the right amount of air volume in a box for these subs is not a problem, it is getting enough mounting depth since the space under the rear seat is so small.

I would like to just see a pic of the set up now. I'd like to see if the box fits flush with the end of the seat, etc etc....
I am in fact going with 2 kicker 10" L7's....They will be powered by a 2500.1 kicker amp...
I too love kicker products....I have had problems in some high stress situations with various amps and subs...but kicker really does stand behing their product when there is a problem...
