10" subs - 1 or 2 ???

Is there that big of a difference in having 1 or 2 subs in a 04 SuperCab? I want SQ, no need to hear me from a mile away. I am very limited on my $$$ (I got a gift card for Fathers Day that I want to use).

If I dont have to invest in 2 subs maybe I can spend the extra $ on something else. If 2 subs is recommended then I want to do that. What do you guys think?

Personally, I think you'll be fine with just one sub. It's not like your're competing for spl or anything. I'm going to use just one 10" in my supercrew.

Depends on what you want. Everyones ears will hear and like different things. I have two 10" in my extended cab and I wish for more. I personally think that two subs will give you better sound quality than one sub.

Also, are you planning on putting the sub in the downfiring position under the rear seat?

That was going to be part 2 of my question. I had 1 shop tell me that downfire is the way to go and another say upfire is best. I can't tell since I have never heard any trucks system. Everyone I know that has a truck just uses the stock system. BOOOORRRRIIIINNNNGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is not a huge difference in SPL CAPABILITIES between using one sub and two identical ones. That's not to say there is NO difference, just that it is not what some people expect. Do some research on how sound pressure works in real world applications and you'll see. In theory, doubling the power to a single sub OR using double the number of subs, in this case two, nets an increase of 3dB. In actual vehicle environments it likely will NOT be even close to that. A vehicle's interior is one of the worst possible places to try to reproduce music accurately. Like someone else said, it depends on what you want. If you are on a budget, and aren't looking to cave in someone's chest, one sub might be enough. You can always add later if you so desire.

I don't recommend an "up firing" sub under the seat...just for clearance reasons alone. I had 2 10W7 forward firing and now have 2 12" SI MAGS downing firing (not mention 2 10 Treo SSi's as well downfiring). Between the foward firing and down firing...I couldn't hear a difference (except that the 12's ROCK!!!!).

The forward firing will give you more mounting depth than down firing and that will open you up to A LOT of SQ/SQL subs. But, you will need a seat lift and I recommend one with how ever you go.

A good SQ sub that might fit downfiring w/o a lift would be a DLS Iridium or Nobelium. But, both are a bit on the expensive side, though "expensive" is relative only to the buyer.

It depends on what type of sub you are looking at. You can get 1 high quality sub to sound better than any number of low quality subs combined. I could give you some specific advise if you tell me where you will be shopping so I know what your choices will be. Amp and installation will also be big factors in quality. If you have a well matching amp it will make a huge difference. Kevin

What you say is true, but I got the impression he was referring to using two subs, vs. using just one of the exact same kind, in which case there wouldn't be an astounding difference. Of course if you compared using one cheap, low performance 10 vs. using two ultra high end 10s, or vice versa, there would be a huge difference. I don't get that he was asking that, though. Maybe I'm wrong.

Yep, letting people know you're coming is what I call a definite invite for saying "Hey, come steal my stuff I worked so hard for". I don't think so. Just my .02. You learn & get wiser as you get older.

I am curious what 2 subs and amp you are running that run at 3k.

Part of the problem that we all have here with a pickup interior is space. If you have a scab or screw you paid alot of extra cash for the extra room and may not be willing to give that up and if you have a regcab you dont have any to begin with. With that said I would suggest going with a quality single 10" sub. You won't have to sacrifice as much space as 2, and 1 sub in the correct size box will perform better than 2 in too small of a box. The money you save on only buying one sub will also allow you to buy a bigger amp which will increase the volume capability. Doubling your subs OR doubling your power will both give you a 3db increase so it is quite possible to still get alot of volume/spl with only 1 sub. Also having to build an enclosure for a single sub is easier and would be less expensive to have done if your not building it yourself which will also free up more money for better sub/amp.

Man I would go with one 10 inch sub. I have had every kind of system out there from four 15 inch subs and down to what I have now which is one 10. It all depends in how you set up your system. The better the amp, speaker, and box the better the sound. Dont forget cheap wiring will kill your sound as well.

its about quality not quantity. a small to moderate amount of accurate clean bass is always better than any superflous quantity of unwelcome unmitigated crap.

for a budget setup, an image dynamics ID10 v3 has to be the best bang for the buck, 120 shipped from sounddomain.com

Phoenix GOld RSd10d fits nicely under the rear seat and takes 350rms and hits sufficiently hard. I won't be winning any SPL contests but i'm pretty satisfied. I did have to make my own custom grill that pushed the box up off the floor a bit more than the box sat with the stock 1.1" bumpers.
