Component Crossover Location 2005 F150
I will be installing front component speakers next week in my 2005 F150. Does anyone have a good location for the crossovers?
Should I try to put them in the door or the kick panel??

I always recommend NOT putting them in the door. But that's me. I just believe there are too many other choices to even consider that. Behind the kick panel is great if the crossovers aren't too big. Under the dash is good. Because of their size, mine are under the rear seat on the little "shelf" area below the seat back.
I've put the crossovers in the doors of my trucks (and some of my friends trucks) for the last 12 years.
7 vehicles, not one problem ever.
Of course, the quality of the crossover will impact how long it will live in any installation.
All of my installs were with MB Quart or Polk Audio parts, so quality wasn't an issue.
In my '01 Supercrew there were spots between the door and the interior panel where the crossover mounted quite nicely.
Just my $.02...

The components I bought are Polk Audio. Hopefully that bodes well seeing as how you have never had an issue.
I was hoping to get alot more feedback...this forum doesn't see nearly the traffic as the 2004-2005 F150 forum does...
Thanks to both of you for your input! I appreciate the advice.

I haven't looked at it closely yet...but if there is a chance it could get wet, I'll have to consider other options.

Putting them in the doors doesn't only put them in jeapordy of water damage but also doesn't allow you to easily adjust tweeter levels or adjust phase to possibly correct or improve the sound stage or quality (a couple of things that can make huge improvements). With the massive room in the dash I would look at putting them there.
OK, PUT THEM IN THE ARMREST. This seems to be where everyone, including myself, installs them. As JurassicBob stated, this is basically inside of the cabin.
Dont take my word for it, take a small flat head scredriver, wedge it into the gap between the top and bottom of the armrest, and pop that sucker off (detailed instructions via. SEARCH). There, look at that its an awesome spot for a crossover.

Well first off, I dont think "RAIN" water is going to get to this spot, if so then we would all be in trouble considering that it would damage our power windows etc, plus it would be getting in the cab...Im guessing maybe you guys who say water will get to it, are meaning moisture?...I could see this being a concern, but quite frankly i dont see any more moisture getting in there, than any other spot that has been mentioned...And if anything its much easier to access this spot for a quick tune(although i guess my kicker crossovers must be cheap as they have no adjustments on them?)but i can just grab the edge and pop the cover right off on the armrests...Thats where i installed mine...also saved wire as it only took a short piece from the speaker and tweater...And another prob might be size, im assuming you guys have some heavy duty ones if they have adjustment *****, yours may not even fit, but i would try it...My 2cents...
No ***** on mine either... just the input and two outputs. They fit in there perfectly. I can't imagine installing them anyplace else. Especially since I heard that this is where they stick the crossover for the audiophile option.
