Alpine 2-way or Pioneer 3-way?
Alpine 2-way or Pioneer 3-way?
I am looking at replacing the door speaker in my 04 SCab. I know very little about speakers though. So assuming same cost, would you recommend the Alpine 2-way:

Or the Pioneer 3-way:

(haha, I said 3-way)
Crutchfield would end up costing me less cause I have a coupon for $10 off and free shipping and they give you free wiring harnesses.

Pioneer 2-way
Pioneer 2-ways. Best all-around speaker for the money. If you throw money into amps and all the extras, sure. Upgrade a bit. Polks rock, as do many other higher-end speakers. But 3-ways? They tend to have a sound akin to air rushing in through a pin hole.
As you can see, a question like the one asked here will draw a wide number of different answers. Personal taste is a factor, The listener's experience is a factor. People offer up well intended recommendations when they may not have enough experinece to do so. People also make very vague general statements when making recommendations, like "Brand X 2-way is the best all around speaker for the money", while failing to mention that there are about a dozen such speakers in their line. And, they are far from being the same. They range from dreadful to pretty decent. Also, most of these companies contract out their speaker building and sometimes all their speakers aren't even produced by the same supplier. You need to decide without question what you want to spend and then go listen to speakers. Narrow it down to something you like in the price range you can handle. Try to find some to listen to in a vehicle because speakers sound entirely different installed than in a sound room at a shop. While you can get a zillion recommendations from well meaning people, you are the one who is going to have to listen to whatever you buy.

i agree with what 97f250 is saying the choice of speakers is a very personal thing like i said in my previous post i am very happy with the performance of my 2 and 3 way pioneers now they may not sound pleasing to some one else a friend of mine has alpines in his truck and i will say i do not know which models they are but any way i don't find them as pleasing as the my pioneers again a matter of personal perference so that does not make one speaker better or worse than the other do like 97f250 said go out and try as many diff erent speakers as you can find and buy what makes you happy

Why admonish someone for desiring to pass on what they consider to be a good find? Experience is required to offer an opinion on speakers? How pompous. If the original poster finds what he is looking for based on recommendations found on this forum, then that is a positive thing. A vague statement like "Brand X 2-way is the best all around speaker for the money" is merely an opinion, and was offered in the spirit of sharing what was considered to be a great buy. Your remarks constitute a case of disdain for the opinions of others, and consequently, you seem to insinuate with your remarks that the original poster is too incompetent to decide for himself what he wants. Why not just offer an opinion and move along.

Be accountable for what you say, OK!!!
Why admonish me for speaking the truth? Give me a break!! I've been involved in this for over 35 years and YES experience is important when making recommendations. I fail to see how anyone could possibly think it isn't. Whatever! I was just trying to point out to thaisOn, who by the way stated that he knows little about speakers, a couple of things to take into consideration. You can't dispute what I recommended. And while it may seem to you to be disdain on my part for the opinions of others, think about what you said. Your statement was that the Pioneer 2-ways were the best all around speaker for the money. Have you actually listened to every speaker at that price? That's the only way that your statement could hold any value to be a sound recommendation, and could be considered an opinion. Had you said, "I own the Pioneer 2-ways and really like them", or "I prefer the sound of Pioneers over Alpines", or some such thing, no problem. Those are opinions. But, that's not what you said. While you may consider your statement an opinion, I consider it a remark which needs to be pointed out as NOT based on fact. Hence, the post I made to point out to thaisOn that your generalization is NOT true and that sometimes people with good intentions(which I'm sure includes you) simply do not know all they need to know to offer sound advice. As you suggested, I could have offered an opinion and moved on, but instead thought it would be better for thaisOn to make his own choice.
I really appreciate everyone's comments. I ended up going with some Pioneer 3-ways. Got them brand new for an UNBEATABLE price, and figured if I dont like them then I can easily sell them and make my money back.
Its just difficult for me to find a place that has the speakers I want to hear in one place. Crutchfield was my best bet, but they are 2 hours away, but i pass by them on the way to my parents house. So if these pioneers dont work out, then I will stop by Crutchfield to do a better comparison.
Again, thanks guys for all the comments, they are much appreciated!

pioneer speakers are junk.
they're on the same playing field as Sony car speakers.
three way really means nothing unless you're talking about using real crossovers.
it's actually a 1.5way speaker. the mid does not have a bandpass filter, just a single cap like the tweeter and the midbass driver runs full range.
check out ikesound.com and pick up a set of cheap components. they are almost always better then a coaxial speaker sinply because of the crossover.
I think they have a set of MB Quart (very high quality german company) components for like $77 +shipping.
just my $.02

What's up with this battle of semantics? This definition of "opinion"? What I offered was my opinion. I offered it in the way in which I chose to. My experience? I have ears that hear, not to mention being involved in audio for over 20 years and being a trained musician. But really, that's not important.
Yes, I listened to a myriad of speakers in the class I purchased from for weeks before settling on what I have.
Yes, I failed to mention other speakers in that class because I found them to be not worth mentioning, consistent with my opinion. Had I not, and heard only Pioneers and liked them, then my opinion would be that they are good and didn't feel the need to listen to others. I settled on what sounded good to me, and fit within my budget. It doesn't matter how I came to that conclusion. Simple.
You come across as the sort of individual who wants people to buy something that YOU believe is good, being ever vigilant to guard against someone buying something YOU feel to be inferior. Frankly, you don't sound as though you really believe that you want people to make their own choices. Why else would you object to my humble opinion? If you disagree, then say so. That's fine. Yet to assume that I, or anyone else for that matter, do not possess some contrived requisite degree of experience to say whether or not a particuliar speaker sounds good to us or not, is asinine indeed.
Yes, I believe Pioneer 2-ways are the best all around speaker for the money, of course aside from higher-end gear, which is what I said in the beginning.
I never assumed that the poster wasn't intelligent enough to listen to my choice of speaker and then form his own opinion. Obviously, you did.
I could care less is the poster bought Pioneers, 2-ways or 20-ways, or another set of factory speakers. I could care less if the gentleman buys NO speakers and just drives along humming to himself. I just offered my opinion.
Another poster stated that Pioneers are crap. Are you going to now challenge his opinion, and ask that he qualify and offer justification for his remarks? He offered his opinion and I respect it.
And that's my OPINION.
