Factory Sub
Factory Sub
I have a '05 XLT SuperCrew with the single CD player. I am currious as to whether or not it is prewired for the factory sub?
I know crutchfield sells connectors so that maybe I could hook up an aftermarket sub and amp without having to run too many additional wires. Is this at all possible, or am I going to have to go about this the old fashioned way?

I have a 2004 Lariat supercab and mine came prewired for the subwoofer, my plug for the head unit was attached to the frame behind the radio, and the other end was under the carpet under the back seat. i had to cut the carpet a little ways back toward the front seat to find it. it had screw holding it down to the floorboard. then i used carpet tape to put the carpet back down besides the sub will cover it anyway.
Did you use those connections to connect a factory sub, or an aftermarket one?
And does the factory sub have an amp in the box, or an external one?
I may just look into getting one of those becasue it looks real clean, and makes just enough noise for me.

I'm installing a factory sub
I found the harness under the seat attached to floor board and had to cut the carpet as mentioned but will I have to pull the radio and attach something?[QUOTE=bigmoe1753]i used the factory plugs and wiring, and the amp is mounted on the outside of the subwoofer.

You need that head unit that is ready to plug the harness into.
Not all 6-CD/MP3 player head units are the type needed to plug in the sub woofer. You need 3 sockets on the back, for the harnesses. Some of these head units only have 2 sockets.
Hi. I have an 06 King Ranch SCrew without the factory sub - and am planning on adding a small powered sub (most likely the kenwood) under the rear seat. After reading this post - I found the connector under the carpet in the rear, but cannot find the end in the dash. I pulled the radio and looked under the dash - but no luck. My HU is the 6-cd MP3, but only has the 2 connector plug-in spots (speakers and aux).
Where have you found the connector under the dash? Any clues would be appreciated. Also, should there be power to that connector under the seat - even if it's not plugged into the radio?
Thanks

the plug under the rear seat that I found has power on it... do you think that is a good sign or does it just have juice to it and nothing else..basicly what I'm asking is if the plug behind the head unit is the opposite of what's under the seat which has five wires or does the one behind the head unit have four wires and a power wire coming from somewhere else.

factory wiring
the plug for the radio is behind the radio, it looks like it is plugged into something on the flat piece of metal behind the radio, but it is actually plugged into a cap that is fixed to the metal piece. just take it loose from the cap and you are ready to plug and play if you have a audiophile headunit.
