System advice for a 2006 FX4

I'm not a genius when it comes to building sound systems and such, but I do know just a little bit. I'm not really looking for a hard thumping sound system so I'm not interested in huge subs. I really just want to replace my front and rear door speakers to improve the sound moderately. I've looked around crutchfield and I've got a few ideas, but if I did replace the factory door speakers with some kenwoods or some pioneers would I need an amp as well to make a difference? Does that make sense? Would the factory receiver push something besides the crappy factory speakers?

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated, including brand suggestions and any general ideas. Thanks!!

type R components look awesome and sound awesome. running off the deck or a 4 ch amp, they sound good and hide behind the factory speaker grill. of coarse you can mount the tweeter somewhere else but my customer wanted it here.

Any other suggestions, I kind of want to make an order this weekend. I've looked into those Alpine Type R's, but I see mixed reviews....

i had a type R components in the front $ 138 with shipping and kenwood exelon in the rear $ 85 dls.
i had a 600 Watts kenwood all ready from my previous truck
professional installation cost me $210 keeping my factory radio
let me tell you i have awesome sound
if you go with the alpine SPR57LS YOU WILL NEED TO CUT OFF THE SIDE EARS other wise you won't be able to fit
hope this helps!

Crutchfield shows only 5.25" component systems will fit in my 2004 Reg cab doors - whats up with that? They list single 5x7 and 6x8 kits that will fit. But again they say the Apline Type R series components do not fit.

Check out Arc Audio. That's what I have in my truck, and they sound great.

I put the Infinity components in the front and the Infinity 2-way (or 3-way I forget)in the back and it sounds awesome. I bought mine from Crutchfield. I had to enlarge the hole for the tweeter to fit but my speaker grilles won't fit due to the tweeter sticking out to far. I think I am going to cut the metal grille off the tweeter and sand some off the back of the factory speaker panel. On the rear speakers I had to tie wrap the wires to the door because when I rolled my rear windows down the window unplugged them.

You can fit the 5x7, the 6x8, the 5.25 and 6.5 size speakers. The round sizes you will need to buy an adapter to "adapt" the 5x7 to the round size(5.25 or 6.5). I got the Polk 6500's and they are nice. I had the Infinity Reference Components(5.25) and they dont come close to comparing to the Polk

Looks like Crutchfield stopped carrying ANY Alpine speakers except subwoofers.
