Get some component speakers for the front. Leave the stock units in the back untill you are ready to add an amp. Alpine and JL make some nice componet speakers, I placed my tweeter up in the shell where the mirror and door

The stock speakers are paper coned and very sensitive, replacement speakers are going to be made up of a different composition of materals, not as dynamic until you get some power behind them.

On the alpines, if you are looking to get bass out of the speakers, the SPR models are designed to deliver more base than the SPS. I used the SPS because they tended to have better mids and I am going to run a sub and cross over all lower frequecies to the sub.

My $.02

I have a question that pertains to this thread. I bought some component tweeters and I would like to put them in the door up where the trim peice is where the side window defrost is located (what a sentence!). I think I will have to remove the door panel (how?) and cut a whole. This would be similar to how the 06 navigator's tweeters are installed. How/where did you mount your tweeters? Do you have pictures?

If you have the XLT, FX4 or lariat model you have a tweeter hole behind the speaker grill. Very easy to install and no cutting or drilling into pieces that are visible. SOme slight trimming may be needed to fit a tweeter in the hole.
