Which Subs?

Hey fellas,

I have a 2000 f-150 supercab w/ the 60/40 split bench in the rear. I am going to put a box (either build or buy) that will fit under the back seats. I know the biggest I can go is w/ 10's but I dont know which ones. I looked at subbox.net and their box for my truck will fit two 10's but w/ only a maximum depth of 5". All the subs i have looked at need more than this to fit. I was wondering who makes subs that will fit into this box.

Thanks,
Ed

go to www.supercrewsound.com and they have boxes that can fit 2 10's and have a more variety of sub depth than just 5'. Hope this helped

Thanks for the info Dallas. I have decided to go w/ supercrewsound's box for my truck and put two kicker 10's in it. Im not looking for a competition stereo but i want more than my alpine type S will do. Plus i cant stand having the 40 part of my bench in the back flipped up for my box. Plus this setup is in my price range ($500).

Thanks,
Ed

no problem man. just make sure you get the right depth to what the subs say they can be mounted at. ie: add the 5/8th if you need more room than the standard supercrewsound box.

I had planned to get the 5/8" added anyway. The kickers dont need the room but if i want different subs later, i want to have that option. On a side note... does anyone know how long it will take to get the box?

Thanks,
Ed

You want the biggest subs you can fit get the 10" Audiobahn high Excursions. I got a box from MusicMoose on eBay, max depth of 5.5". I got the AW1000N. They take 600RMS, and 1000 Watts max. Compare these to other subs in crutchfields subwoofer matrix and you will see Crutchfield seems to show these as pretty bad ***. Myself, I have two of these running at 1ohm to a 1200RMS amp.

Personally I dont understand the point of putting some single voice coil low power sub in when you can get these subs and a box for UNDER $300. Shop ebay dude! Also, you will need to call Audiobahn to get the lower profile trim ring for the subs unless you buy one of last years model. The new ones have this dumb ring with "fingers" around it to guard the sub. Too big for our trucks.

I had 3 JL 12W6's on this amp before in my Buick, and I do work with custom stereo systems for a living and have a pretty good ear for sound. I can pretty much guarantee you that your not going to get much better bass in our trucks at almost any price... Unless you want to put some 12's in somewhere that will be visable and ugly. In my ride, you dont see a thing except the deck, even though Ive got speakers, 1600 watts worth of amps, and a power cap in the back.

Anyways I was asking these sort of questions when I first got my ride and I felt like I got a lot of biased opinions from people who had small subs, or some subs Ive never heard of... lots of people telling me Audiobahn was crap, yadda yadda. Meanwhile these same people are using some cheesy home theater style drivers in a ported box.

Let me know if you want more info, I got some photos in my gallery and I did everything myself top to bottom and kept records if it would help (wire colors, etc.)

So who thinks Im wrong?

I would suggest the ED 11kv2s for a SQ set up, or as always the image dynamics IDQ 10s.

Robamus - That was propablly me who bashed a-bahn and told you to get a "cheesy hometheeatre style" driver. Just out of curiosity why did you go with the a-bahns, after all? Glad you like them, in the end.

LOL... Thats OK.. I went with them for four reasons; price, fitment, features, and power handling. I had the amps and head unit when I bought the truck, and I wanted to get something powerful after coming from my last setup.

My brother has an identical setup (head unit, amps, door speakers) with an ID 12". Nice subs, but with the 10" requirement of this truck, I couldnt resist at least trying these subs I got for $80 each... even if I blew them up I wouldnt feel bad. But, I am thrilled with the way it came out in the end, and I dont have any desire to change it. With my last car I went from 2 10W6v2's to 3 12W6s and it was SO much better. I think a lot of this had to do with 1) The lower bass of course! 2) Just that much MORE sound in that HUGE car (Buick RoadMONSTER). I dont have the loudness complaint in the truck since the subs are like 3' from my head in the same cab. I DO miss the LOW LOW notes I had on my 12"s. Not really something I notice, but once in a while I hear my friends single W7 and get a reminder of what low super kick *** bass really is... Not super loud in a Yukon, but LOW and clean. I am still satisfied as I notice my 10s hit lower then any of my friend's with 10's... which is the rest of them. I dont know why some of these dudes run 10's when they have the space to run 12's but it just makes me sound better.

Thanks for the info Robamus. I looked into some audiobahn 10's from supercrewsound and i have one question. I made a note when i was ordering my box that i would be using the kicker cvr10's ( i guess they make the cutout what the subs you are using need to be). The kickers need a 9 1/4" cutout and the audiobahns need a 9" cutout. Am I screwed or do the subs have a big enough lip to still have enough wood to screw to? I really like the price of the audiobahns but are not too sure how they will perform? Will you be able to hear them outside my truck or just inside like my p.o.s. alipne 12" ? I really appreciate all the help.

I had to use a die grinder to take a little bit of the edge away when I installed my subs. I wouldnt worry too much about it, I would imagine that it will work OK.

I was playing something on XM today and the girls behind me started waiving their hands like they were at a concert... My truck is pretty damn loud I must say, my roommates say they hear me coming when I get home.

Hope this helps, and let me know how it goes.
